Stone courtyard garden to relax with beautiful seating area. “Off the beaten track.” Along a country Lane, in the heart of the Hamlet of Iburndale, Blackbird Cottage really does nestle in the valley, jostling for a position in the centre of the Village, close to the beck, over the hump back bridge… From the Cottage you can go walking and hiking to explore the woodlands and fields around the village or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Grosmont, Whitby or Harry Potter’s or Heartbeat’s at Goathland. Take a leisurely walk into Whitby, just 4 miles! See the North Yorkshire Moors, appreciate the heritage and wildlife, this is an inspiring place to visit at any time of year. Its less than 15 minutes to local shops in Sleights or the dog friendly CAMRA, Plough Inn. You could be a world away from the city hustle and bustle. Walk into it from Blackbird Cottage. Located within the area five golf courses one within a 4 mile drive. The sleepy hamlet of Iburndale on the edge of Sleights is a wonderful place to to stay. Walk into Whitby or take a trip inland all within minutes. Go to nearby Ruswarp and enjoy watching or even participating in rowing boats on the river Esk and quaint tea shops. It is only a short distance to Sandsend with its extensive beach with year round surfing. The cottage will appeal and cater for the coastal holidays or the countryside lover. Sleights village has Public Houses, fabulous bakery, award winning delicatessen/butchers, fish and chip restaurant and general store all within walking distance of the cottage.The terminus of The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway is located only a short drive in Grosmont and Sleights has a regular public bus service to nearby Whitby. Whitby fishing town is steeped in history from the magnificent whale bones, swing bridge, famous 199 steps leading to Whitby Abbey. Whitby benefits from glorious sandy beaches. Passing over the North Yorkshire Moors from Pickering, drop down Blue Bank, into Sleights. A right turn by the Church leads you into the valley bottom, and Iburndale, one of the oldest settlements in this area. The village has a quiet hamlet appearance. Proceed over the hump back bridge and after a short distance turn right (Mill Lane) and Blackbird Cottage is on your left, nestling in a quiet and comfortable position close to the centre of the hamlet. The on-site car parking is located on the left side of the cottage. The bus/trains are all located within 1/4 mile from the cottage. Whitby Train Station is close by. Blackbird Cottage has on site private parking for 1 car as well as on street parking. Bus service available from Scarborough and Whitby. Our Change-over is Friday - Friday. Check in after 5.00pm Check out before 09.00am No keys are required. All our cottages are keypad locked. The access details are emailed 7 days prior to your holiday. We can be contacted by phone/email during your stay. Unfortunately we are unable to accept dogs in Blackbird Cottage.
