Cosy Cornish cottage convenient to both coasts
1800's rustic detached cosy cottage. It has a garden with pleasant aspect, and a wood burning stove for chilly evenings. Perfect for couples who enjoy hiking, cycling or relaxing and exploring the local area. Situated on the edge of a working village well located for both North and South coasts. It is also a historic area with many trails leading to old wheal houses and copper mines. 7 miles to Portreath and 8 miles to Falmouth. The cottage benefits from a well equipped kitchen with oven, hob, micro wave etc. The bathroom has a spacious bath / shower with lashings of plentiful hot water! Parking is on the street, or in a layby opposite. It's a small village and parking is nearby and trouble free. We are situated in the heart of the historic Cornish mining area, once the richest square mile in the world a hundred and fifty years ago! Hire a bike from Bike Chain Bissoe or Elm tree cycles, (ten minutes by car) and explore over 60 km of Trails amongst nature and wildlife, - you can cycle to the beaches of Portreath & Porthowan for a refreshing swim! At Tweleveheads is an excellent cafe with tasty homemade food and wonderful coffee! The cafe is situated on the cycle or walking coast to coast trail which follows the disused historic railway line from the south to the north coast of 11 miles. Whether you are a walker, cyclist or horse rider, this network offers a wealth of opportunities. There are plenty of footpaths from the cottage including access to Gwennap Pit where John Wesley preached, and onto Carnmarth Hill with views to Falmouth on the south coast to St.Agnes on the north coast. Many local pubs can be accessed for good food. Stithians Lake is just 4 miles away where there are an abundance of water sports - sailing, wind surfing, canoeing and fishing amongst other things. They have a lovely waterside cafe with homemade fresh food, and next door is The Golden Lion pub which is very popular for food. Carharrack is a friendly working Cornish village with local amenities, away from (but easily accessible for) the tourist hotspots. Furthermore, it's central location also offers easy access to Falmouth, Truro, Padstow, the Lizard, Porthleven, Penzance and St Ives, among other attractions. NEAREST BEACHES: Porthtowan, Porthtreath, Chapel Porth (park in the field on the right for £3 all day) and walk down to beach – not far. Gwithian beach is a magnificent beach near St Ives, about 20 minutes by car. LOCAL PUBS/PLACES OF INTEREST: The Fox & Hounds, Comford (1 mile lovely walk, ask us for directions) popular with good pub grub; The Star Inn, Vogue ( 1 mile walkable); The Stag Hunt Inn, Ponsnooth (good food & local micro brewery beer); Red lion, Mithian; Red Lion, Blackwater; Treleigh Arms, Redruth, reportedly good food; Amy’s Café (at Twelveheads on a cycling route) good food & coffee; Bisoe, café where you can hire bicycles –good food and coffee. We eat at all these places and recommend the food. The local shop in Carharrack has all the basic needs, plus the proprietor’s mother makes wonderful samosa’s. Just ask, and they will be freshly made for you. Fish and Chip shop in Redruth – Greg & Lou’s. Portreath bakery in Lanner, just down the road for lovely bread, pasties and cakes/sweet thing. Cuckoo Valley cider farm near Porthtreath, a wonderful small family cider farm - you could cycle to it! Healeys Cornish Cider Farm, Penhallow, Truro - 15 minutes drive. Gwennap Pit, A tiered amphitheatre-like structure which stands as a memorial to the Methodist movement in the 18th Century. A World Heritage site, still used as a place of worship – walking distance from the cottage. The Minnack theatre near land's End, although not local, is well worth a visit The main roads near the village (the A30 dual carriageway is 4 milesaway) allows quick travel to the north beaches and to the top to the bottom of the county. However there are a myriad of small roads and lanes to explore by car or bike; and many traffic free lanes, footpaths and bridleways. Bring an o/s map! Garden furniture is available for guests to enjoy pleasant weather.
