Carol and Mark would like to introduce you to Castra High Country Cottage, nestled peacefully in the the Central North West of Tasmania. Inspired by reflections of yesteryear the cottage pays homage to the pioneers of the highlands, and the huts they lived in. You will be taken back to the times of our pioneers in this rustic cottage, but don't be misled by the simplistic exterior, inside, you will find everything you need to help you "Rewind, Relax, Rejuvenate." From the moment you arrive you will be transformed to a place of luxury, relaxation and definitely romance. From the back veranda (*we recommend with drink in hand) the Mountains will come alive before your eyes. Take in the picturesque scene of some of Tasmania's iconic Mountains, Cradle Mountain, Mount Roland, Mt Claude, Dial Ranges and Black Bluff, which are majestic and awe inspiring at any time of year, though particularly when covered in snow! As this is a working farm you will be able to take in all the goings on around you, whether its mustering sheep or cattle, seeing young lambs and calves in Spring, making hay or just the scene of horses grazing. Enjoy watching the seasons unfold before you, they all have something special to give and be remembered by, the mild summer evenings with glorious orange and pink sunsets. Or in contrast the beautiful crisp morning air of Autumn, we boast to have some of the cleanest air and water in the world. Beautiful clear nights with stars and constellations lighting up the southern sky. Sit by the outdoor fire with a glass of something and be taken away by the starry heavens above as your cares simply ebb peacefully away in the tranquility of the beautiful surrounds . The cottage has everything you will need to make your stay memorable. That may be a romantic getaway or a weekend with the family. You will have a continental breakfast supplied along with fresh eggs and locally sourced bacon, and a few little extras. You will find a BBQ for your use, upon request a BBQ meat pack can be supplied. As the cottage is part of a working farm you will at times see us out and about, and will be available for anything you require. But mostly we will let you have the time to yourself to enjoy each others company and relax. the cottage is situated away from the main house to give you absolute privacy. You could make the cottage your base whilst exploring the North West region which is in close proximity to; Kaydale Lodge with with their stunning gardens and Tea House, Leven Canyon and Black Bluff walking trail. Just a little further afield you can find the beautiful Gunns Plains, with their magnificent limestone caves or you can visit a Tassie devil at Wings Wildlife Park . Or head the other direction and visit the renowned Cradle Mountain and beautiful Dove Lake. We are only 25 minutes to the Coast, with soft sand beaches and the opportunity to meet some of the local fairy penguins in the many rookeries. Lake Barrington, which is close by, boasts an international rowing course and is a popular place for water sports, fishing and swimming. Its well worth a visit if you enjoy aquatic activities. Of course if you enjoy trout fishing there are plenty of local streams nearby for you to cast a spinner, spoon or fly into. Bring your mountain bike or walking shoes to explore the many local tracks. Explore the many wineries and eateries, indulging in some of the freshest and most delicious produce Australia has to offer. For your convenience, a shopping centre for all your supplies is conveniently found at either Ulverstone ( approx. 25 minutes away) or in Devonport - home of The Spirit of Tasmania - only a 30 minute drive.
