Mango Tree: 'To Infinity Pool and Beyond'

Mango Tree is a modern, stylish, architect-designed house within the award-winning Victoria Golf & Country Resort. It offers spacious, open-plan living, including a large terrace and infinity pool, all with a fabulous panoramic view across the Victoria reservoir to the mountains beyond. We bought the building plot because of the fabulous view and designed the house, terrace and pool to make the most of it. We like to think that when you first walk into the house you will agree that we have achieved what we set out to do. We have posted some photos, but we are not professional photographers and they don't really do justice to the house or the view both in terms of its scale or the ever changing nature throughout the day, from mist covered mountains at sunrise to the myriad tones at sunset and twinkling lights after dark. If you need to unwind from the stresses of day to day life just sit back and drink in the view. Both bedrooms are spacious with Super King size (6ft) beds and air-conditioned, with large glass doors maximising the view and have ensuite bathrooms with premium shower products and large rain-shower, plus separate dressing rooms. If required, one of the bedrooms can be reconfigured to have 2 single beds. Mango Tree is our home not a hotel, so if you book it, it will be your home for the duration of your stay, whether there are 2, 3, or 4 of you. You won't have to share the house with other guests and our cook and caretaker will be there just to look after you. We have had couples, families and people on their own staying in the last year and received 'Wow' comments from all of them, so if you book to stay at Mango Tree this year I'm sure you will love it as much as we do. The indoor living area is a large open plan space comprising kitchen, dining and living areas which is all yours to enjoy, as is the large terrace, covered verandah and infinity pool, with 4 comfortable sunbeds, chairs and breakfast dining table. Whilst you are enjoying the house we are unfortunately at work in England, but if there are any problems that Michael and Fathima can't resolve for you, we have a close friend (another Michael) who lives full-time on the resort who is happy to be contacted to assist. Michael and Fathima take great pride in looking after all our guests (from all over the world) as you can see from the reviews! The house is situated within Victoria Golf & Country Resort, which boasts a majestic, award-winning championship golf course designed by Donald Steel, as well as riding stables, tennis court, swimming pool, clubhouse and restaurant. If you can drag yourself away from the sun lkmjoungers or infinity pool at the house, the clubhouse is 5-10 min walk away and even if not playing golf it's a lovely place to unwind with a cold drink or have something to eat from the extensive menu. Pallekele International Cricket Stadium can be reached by tuk-tuk in about 20 min (England played there in October and November 2018) and Sri Lanka's historic second city Kandy is only 20km away with the Temple of the Tooth and Botanical Gardens both popular tourist attractions. Again you can travel by tuk-tuk or more commonly hire a minivan and driver to visit Kandy in a bit more comfort. Dambulla, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa can be visited in a day trip from Victoria, though a two or three day trip with overnight stays within the cultural triangle allows them to be experienced at a more leisurely pace. The Knuckles mountain range, the southern edge of which forms part of the wonderful view from the house and which is a World Heritage Conservation Area, renowned for its natural beauty and biodiversity, is also easily reachable. Corbett's Gap, gateway to the Knuckles, is a 2 hour drive away. We are a 3-4 hour drive from Colombo International Airport (you'll get used to it taking longer than you expect to drive most places in Sri Lanka). Though with a car or minivan and driver, it's easy to relax and enjoy the journey. If you are in a hurry though, check out the Cinnamon Air website, which offers a seaplane taxi service from Colombo and other parts of the island direct to the golf course, landing on the adjacent Victoria reservoir within a 2min drive of the clubhouse. If you don't have your own transport, I can arrange a minivan and driver for you, or recommend other options that you can book yourself. Our housekeeper will also have details of reliable tuk-tuk and minivan drivers who can be contacted for short trips or longer journeys. If you play golf, you must play this course*, it's one of Donald Steel's gems. You won't have a problem getting a tee time, can rent clubs if you need to and the caddy master will ensure you get looked after well by your caddy. It's a great experience even if you're not on top form. There is also a very patient golf pro if you fancy a lesson or two on the range. Have a look at the golf course's website for full details. *Please note the golf club is in the middle is a big improvement programme for the clubhouse and course. This means that it is likely only 9 holes will be open to play at any time in 2019/20. There is also a riding stables and mountain bikes to hire on the resort, as well as a naturalist who can be booked to take you on guided walks tailored to your wishes. These can all be arranged at the golf club reception. If you are more of an armchair sport enthusiast, the house has a 50in TV with full cable package offering lots of sports channels, as well as HBO and other movies and the full range of entertainment and news channels. We also have free Wi-Fi so that you can get online. There are ceiling fans throughout and both bedrooms also have A/C.
