Charming Home in Tuscan hill town
Our family holiday home is located in the heart of a lovely small medieval hill-top village called Gioviano. It is perfect for a family of 4 but can even accomodate up to 6 people comfortably. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the breathtaking views! The house is at the top of the village in a little square so it is definetely very quiet, cozy and relaxing as well as safe for your children. Our kids love to play in the court yard just outside the door! The house has 2 floors and can sleep up to 6 people. With its wooden beam ceilings and thick original stone walls, the place shows off its original tuscan nature. The house has a particular rustic country style with personal touches such as some collectors’ items and family paintings. The ground floor has a cozy living/dining area where there is an original tuscan built in bookcase, a sofa (which can become a bed) an armchair, a large dining table and cable television. The kitchen is attached and is fully equipped with a small kitchen table, old fireplace, gas stove, fridge, dishwasher and all the cooking utensils neccessary for a comfortable stay. The top floor has 2 attached rooms, one being the master bedroom with a double bed, and the other a secondary room which is equipped with a bunk bed and another sofa which also opens up into a bed. If you have small toddlers we can supply an extra sleeping cot upon request. The bathroom is also upstairs and has a bathtub as well as a shower. Please note that the bathroom is only accessible through the master bedroom and the dividing wall does not reach the ceiling completely. You can see this in one of the master bedroom pictures. There is a little private terrace just in front of the house where you can sit outside to enjoy your breakfast or just relax and take in the fresh mountain air. Gioviano is a residential village only, so for groceries and restaurants one must head down to the valley by car. During your stay you will be on your own! Basically that means you will have no annoying interferences seeing that I live in another city with my family. my helper Brigida, can greet you, open up and show you around but for non- Italians, I suggest the self check-in formula as Brigida does not speak a word of english! You will be guided step by step from the parking lot to the house in order to retrieve the keys from the little safe box. You can always call me for assisted guidance. I will always be reachable by phone at all times for any extra info or emergencies. We have a lot of friends in the village, and in particular my helper Brigida (who is also my neighbour!) will be able to interact immediately if there is a problem and once again, do not hesitate to contact me for questions of any sort and to satisfy your daily needs. Just give me a call! Gioviano is considered to be a jewel to many travellers for its quiet and relaxing atmosphere, with breathtaking views of the Tuscan Garfagnana valley just below. Among the italian inhabitants , many foreigners have bought vacation houses in the village after having discovered its beauty and the hospitality of the italian locals. It takes just a few minutes to get down to the main road and have easy access to so many of the cultural and tourist attractions which this area has to offer. Medieval towns such as the well known Barga with its many cultural festivals and Bagni di Lucca with its thermal baths are less then a 20 minute drive away. You can enjoy walks just around Gioviano or further explore the many hiking trails in the nearby Apuan Alps or Appenini mountains. The beautiful city of Lucca with its’ ancient walls is only a 25 minute drive away and even Florence and Pisa are easy day trips. If you are a sea lover, enjoy the medditeranean “Versilia” coast all the way up to the well known “Cinque Terre” which are all at a more then reasonable distance. Since the house is located in the centre of the village in a “no car” zone, there is a walk up to the house from the 2 parking lots which are attached to the town. Parking is never a problem and it is free. A car is necessary to reach the village but one can consider taking the train from the towns in the valley below to reach all the main tourist attractions such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence. Please note the price change in October due to the heating expenses! This is also the reason why I don’t rent in the winter because the heating costs a fortune and it’s just not worth it in the end. The house being stone and not so well isolated, it takes constant heating in order to keep a good comfortable (Website hidden by Airbnb) at this point I’ll see you in Spring!
