At the height of the Schönborner Hof, the street widens to Schillerplatz, whose tree planting corresponds to a Baroque ideal. As representative-monumental conclusion of the place in the south rises the Osteiner yard. Als repräsentativ-monumentaler Abschluss des Platzes im Süden erhebt sich der Osteiner Hof. Dieses architektonische Ausrufezeichen unterscheidet sich von den eher nüchtern und kalkuliert wirkenden Prachtbauten durch seine aufgelockerte und dynamisch wirkende Anmutung. Er ist umgeben von mehreren Adelshöfen aus der Barock- und Rokokozeit und Standort verschiedener Denkmäler, so auch des berühmten Mainzer Fastnachtsbrunnens. Heute ist der Schillerplatz einer der größeren begrünten Plätze mit angrenzenden Geschäften des Einzelhandels in der Mainzer Innenstadt.
