Hilltop Cottage
The newly upgraded Cottage features spacious rooms with comfortable beds, big tvs with movies available on thumb-drives, unlimited NBN Wifi, Fans & gas heating. One brand new bathroom, new flooring throughout. Upgraded kitchen facilities including new appliances. The cottage was built in about 1890. A lot has happened to her in that time. She is not like a modern home. She creaks a little with age. She has a few oddities and a few gaps. As such, the experience you will have here is not like a hermetically sealed 21st century apartment. She has been on fire at least once. In renovating her, I found four different types of floorboards and 1950's magazines under the mid century era Linoleum. Hardly a straight line in the place... Though the white tin roof is high, the verandah wide and the insulation thick, you will feel the changes in humidity and temperature. There is an aircon unit in one of the bedrooms which is really only needed a few days a year and does a great job of taking the edge off those real scorchers. The original 'four square' was connected to the outdoor dunny and laundry via a breezeway. There were sloping concrete pathways and it was open to the street. The original tiny bathroom still has exterior walls made from split timber planks. 'upgraded' in the 1960s. I converted the original laundry to a relatively modern bathroom. It's not ALL THAT, but it's pretty good. That breezeway almost feels indoors now. I closed it off to the street and added oak flooring, a back door and decent lighting. It IS still effectively outdoors though. Like I said, it's quirky... So. Try to think of the experience as something from another era. Though there are mod cons, amazingly comfy beds and some stylish details, it's not too hard to imagine what it would have been like 130 years ago. I hope that resonates with my guests. Enjoy. The rear of the property isn't really part of the listing, though you are welcome to park on site if you like. The little front yard is cute and the front deck is a nice spot to enjoy a coffee in the morning or a beer in the afternoon. I'm always best reached via text and generally respond quickly. Tighes hill is a trendy little village. Closeby are a number of cafes, including one across the street. There's a little gallery, even a pub and bottle shop. You are across the road from the TAFE and a stroll down to the water. A bike/walking path just down the hill takes you all the way to the beaches. Buses run closeby and you could walk across to Hamilton railway station in about 20mins. Please consider the backyard as a separate space; a dormant renovation project. It doesn't in any way affect the cottage but to be clear, it is NOT INCLUDED in the listing.
