The Cabin at Kevington
Set on the banks of the beautiful Goulburn River, the cabin is ideal for a romantic escape, family getaway or weekend with friends. You can choose to do a multitude of activities in the area or just relax by the river in summer or by the cosy fire in winter. The spacious open plan living and dining area has cathedral ceilings, a fire-place made from locally sourced slate, a cosy wood-heater, a huge comfy couch and large dining table. Relics from the gold-mining days adorn the walls and the 70's kitchen is a nod to the era in which the cabin was built. There is no TV but there is wifi. Mobile service is only available if your provider is Telstra. Music can be played gon the Bose sound system using a device pre-loaded with music such as an iPhone. There is a good selection of games and jigsaw puzzles and plenty of books and magazines. Floor to ceiling windows offer a lovely view across the lawn to the river and a glass door opens onto a deck complete with comfy couch and arm chairs. A perfect spot to enjoy a morning cuppa or an afternoon drink and just enjoy the view whilst listening to birdsong and the soothing sounds of the river. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and has a walk in pantry. An espresso machine (BYO beans), a selection of teas, Vittoria coffee for the Stove top coffee maker, sugar and pantry essentials such as oil, vinegars, sauces, salt and pepper and spices are provided. There is an electric oven and stove-top as well as a microwave. The cabin has a beautiful newly renovated bathroom with walk in shower. Locally made 'Dindi Natural' hand & body wash, shampoo & conditioner is provided. There is a separate toilet. There are two bedrooms one with a queen bed, the second with a double bed. Woollen quilts, a range of hypo-allergenic pillows, luxurious 1000 thread count sheets, quality quilt covers and towels are provided. Electric blankets are on the beds in the cooler months. WOODEN TENT There is the option for up to 2 people to sleep in a comfy wooden tent beside the river. BYO linen. There are outdoor chairs, a sun lounger, hammocks, 2 yoga mats and an outdoor dining table with market umbrella. Choose to cook on the large gas BBQ/oven, or cook on the wood-fired bbq (fire-ban restrictions permitting) There will be no access to bedroom 2 if only 2 guests are booked. I live in Melbourne and will be more than happy to provide you with any information prior to your stay. You'll find a folder full of literature detailing what to do and see in the area. The key is kept in a key safe at the property and the code will be provided just prior to check-in. The cabin is set on the banks of the Goulburn River surrounded by state forest, a 10 minute drive from Jamieson and 55 minutes from the base of Mt Buller. The historic Kevington Hotel just a 5 minute walk up the road offers great pub meals, a pool table and at times, has live entertainment on the purpose built stage beside the river. Jameson is a 10 minute drive where you will find a well stocked general store, cafe, pub, tennis court for hire, laundry facilities, a local history museum, the Jamieson Brewery and Grill, and the Jamieson Berry Farm. There are lots of historic buildings in town and there are maps for self guided walks at the cabin. Apart from fishing for trout (you must have a licence) and swimming at your back door, the local area offers horse riding, snow sports at Mt Buller as well as cross country skiing, fishing and water sports on nearby lake Eildon. The boat ramp at Howqua is just 15 minutes drive away. The Howqua Caravan Park rents canoes and stand up paddle boards to use on the lake. You could visit one of the many local wineries and the farmers market is every 4th Saturday of the month in the main street of Mansfield. Pack sturdy walking shoes for bushwalking, there are walks of all levels, either along the bitumen road or along the numerous tracks into the bush. The tracks are great for mountain bikes too and the winding road with the river running beside it, is popular with cyclists. Visit the ruins of the old Kevington township, up the track across the road from the cabin, or the old gold mines that are dotted over the countryside. Do not walk off the track as the area is riddled with old gold mines. Fishing rods are provided, byo lure (no bait required but you must have a license to fish). There are tubes for lazing around on the swimming hole or for floating down the river (arrange a pick up further down the road). The river is very popular with canoeists. There are several lovely swimming holes on the property but note that the river rocks can be slippery so it's advisable to wear old trainers or appropriate footwear. Children must be supervised at all times. Depending on the season you can pick blackberries, plums, apples, oranges, bay leaves, mint, parsley and rosemary on the property. It's best to travel by car to make the most of the local area. There are buses to Mansfield from Melbourne with limited transport beyond there. No firewood is supplied from 1 December to 28 February unless the weather is unseasonally cold. I'm sorry but I no longer allow pets at the cabin. Whilst my cancellation policy is strict, if I can re-book your dates I will refund you in full less a $60 cancellation fee. That applies to Covid-19 cancellations also.
