Don Tommaso
Don Tommaso is a stunning ancient stonehouse located in the country side, 2 km from Specchia, labeled as “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy” (check the website borghi (Website hidden by Airbnb) Don Tommaso lays on a 1 hectar of olive grove with a private swimming pool. The villa is few km away from the rocky Adriatic coast and approximately 15 km from the Ionic sandy beaches. Don Tommaso is a 1 ha property with olive trees, fig trees, citrus grove, and a splendid private swimming pool. The house has been restored with modern conforts without having to take away the charm of the past. From the little country road, a small gate (there are two larger ones for cars) leads us into the property, totally enclosed by a stone wall. Our view falls immediately on the olive grove and the private pool (around 16 mt long and 3 mt wide) equipped with outdoor furniture and a hot/cold shower. A large patio with a dining table and a shaded sitting area are perfect spots where spend our time. From the covered furnished patio, through the main door, we enter into the dining/living room with a typical vaulted ceiling. Next to it, there is a fully equipped kitchen, which has its door to get directly to the patio and it is plenty of sun light. The two double bedrooms have direct access on the yard too, and both have ensuite bathroom. One bedroom can be arranged either with a double or two single beds. The third room has two single single beds, and can be used as a second living room transorming the beds in a sofa. An old stone arch leads to its ensuite bathroom, which was originally a recovery for sheeps. There is a stunning roof terrace from which there is a wide view on the countryside and the village of Specchia, only 2 km away: a nice 30 minutes walk. Mina, a lady living in the area, will be available for any need during your stay Within 45 minutes drive you can visit Lecce, a UNESCO heritage site for its unique baroque style, the ancient sea towns of Otranto and Gallipoli, many villages in the countryside with their castles and churches. I recommend to visit at least Nardo’, Galatina, and Maglie. Specchia has one of the best cafè in the country, Martinucci, where you can stroll for a "pasticciotto" (a typical pastry of the area) and enjoy the conversation with the local people. There is also a large community of producers of bio goods as pasta, oil, tomato sauce. The seaside is around 20 minutes away, both the sandy beaches on the Ionian side, as the “Maldive del Salento”, and the rocky Adriatic Coast. Don’t miss the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca at the very end of Puglia and a drive along the coast to see the many ancient fortified towers, dating back to mid 16th century. You need a car to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. If you arrive by plane in Brindisi Airport (direct flights from several major European cities), there are many rental cars available at very convenient prices. In my guidebook, you will find a number of suggestions about places we love to go.
