Angel is a village within a large city, full of restaurants and cafes, clothes shops from high street to designer, furniture boutiques, jewellers and art galleries. This house is in the centre of it all, so you can enjoy everything Angel has to offer right on your doorstep! Plus you're less than half an hour by foot from the City (business district) and the West End (for the theatre). Food and Drinks: You are spoilt for choice in Angel! Just a two minute walk around the corner on Prebend road you have Pophams, which serves the best, most innovative pastries and coffees you’ll find in London. Small and cosy and very local - highly recommend. The Old Queen's Head Pub (less than 1 minute walk) does great burgers and Sunday roasts. It's a great pub in general but there is an entry charge after 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The Duke of Cambridge on the corner of St Peter's street and Danbury street (4 minutes' walk) is all organic, excellent food with lots of inventive vegetarian dishes - and often has free fruit and veg to take away by the door! On Camden Passage, the pedestrian street with shops and restaurants between the house and Angel tube station, there are lots of great restaurants. Highlights include Marcus Brothers for brunch (booking only available on weekdays), Kipferl for delicious Austrian cuisine (schnitzel etc), and Six degrees is very well priced for brunch/lunch. There is a small sushi place too which does top quality freshly prepared sushi - highly recommend. Probably Angel's fanciest restaurant is Frederick's (6 Camden Passage, N1 8EG). Looks small from the outside but it goes far out and has a garden inside. Excellent food. Closed Sundays. Bellanger on Islington Green is very pram/kid friendly and does excellent but affordable Belgian/French food. Brunch is also great here. A tiny and very popular secret Italian place called Saponara (23 Prebend St, Islington, London N1 8PF) does phenomenal homemade pasta dishes. Extremely authentic experience. 1251 restaurant ( N1 1QN) (4 minute walk) is run by Head Chef James Cochran, former chef of The Ledbury and winner of this year's BBC show Great British Menu. The Meat People (3 minute walk) (4-6 Essex Rd, London N1 8LN) does great steaks and fries, but also some top quality starters - fried squid in squid ink batter and the cheese empanadas are particular favourites. For nearby pubs that do phenomenal food, try The Pig & Butcher (for the real foodie), The Albion, and The Marquess Tavern. Sightseeing: Angel has local markets on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday along Camden passage, just a five minute walk from the house, where stalls sell everything from antique jewellery and rugs to silverware. More info camdenp (Website hidden by Airbnb) Granary Square in Kings Cross - this is a 20/25 minute walk partly along the canal. Nice public square often with markets and water features, surrounded by great restaurants and pubs, all along the river. Columbia road flower market (E2 7RG) on a Sunday is a GREAT place to go - see the locals competing with each other to sell flowers and plants at rock bottom prices amid local musicians busking. There are pubs and bakeries there to eat at and you can walk there from the house along the canal. Broadway Market in London Fields on a Saturday. Lots of cafes and restaurants there too. Walk there along the canal. If you turn right out of the house and walk along the cobbled pathway, you arrive at Essex road. To your left on the same side of the road, you will see a bus stop. Bus 38 takes you to Holborn/Covent Garden/Tottenham Court Road/Soho area; But 73 takes you to Kings Cross/Euston/Oxford Circus. Continue walking left on Essex road and you till hit Angel Tube station (Northern Line). Alternatively if you cut across Essex road to Upper street (parallel), and turn right and walk to the end, you will reach Highbury & Islington tube (Victoria line) and overground station.
