The cottage is cosy, homely & has everything you need for a relaxing break. It is close to the Forest for great walks, wildlife, scenery & outdoor activities. The garden is south facing (a real sun trap) & overlooks the Forest which acts as a backdrop to some spectacular sunsets. Amenities include Smart TVs with Netflix & Sky, Xbox games console, DVD player, fast reliable broadband, Italian coffee machine, BBQ, indoor & outdoor games, real log fire, purpose built firepit & bike rack for 6 bikes. The house is decorated in a modern cottage style. It is perfect for a relaxing holiday or as a great base for an activities break in the Forest cycling or utilising all of the amenities on and around the River Wye. It is a real home from home with real log fires for those cosy nights in. The towels are Egyptian cotton, the duvets and pillows are feather with some synthetic ones provided for those with allergies. There is a Nest smart thermostat heating system. There is a fully equipped kitchen with Italian coffee maker, dishwasher and washing machine so you can be fully self sufficient during your stay should you wish. In the garden there is a table that seats 6 with a parasol for those sunny days and a range of outdoor games (these can be found in the garden box), a BBQ and a purpose built firepit for the evenings. There is a secure bike rack for 6 bikes. There is a family bathroom with an over bath shower. There is also an en-suite shower room to the master bedroom. There is a separate dining room for formal eating or games nights. There is a good selection of board games, DVDs and books provided. This also has a log burning stove. The cottage is close to all of the amenities of the forest including Go Ape, archery, sculpture trail, park and the climbing wall at Beechenhurst, beautiful lakes at Cannop and Mallards pike and the cycle centre also at Cannop. Clearwell caves and Symonds Yat rock are also within a short drive. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen, from boar to deer and many species of birds- see examples in the photos section So, if you love outdoor activities, bird watching, cycling, walking or just want a break from the bustle of everyday life then the cottage is perfect for you. All rooms and secure garden are private and solely available for guests use. They are not shared by anyone else. There is a shared driveway with space for 2 cars. I live away from the property but am available on the phone or via Airbnb if you have any questions or problems. You can walk from the cottage and get to the forest within 5-10 minutes where there are loads of amazing walks, scenery and wildlife. Suggestions for walks can be found in the welcome pack. The house is situated in a quiet square with a corner shop 2 minute walk away for all your essentials and a 5 minute drive to the town centre with larger supermarkets, coffee shops, takeaways etc. Beechenhurst is very close (7 min drive) which has a range of activities including archery, a climbing wall, children’s Go Ape, a playground, picnic area , sculpture trail and a cafe. At Cannop (8 min drive) there is a popular mountain biking cycle centre where there are a range of trails for all ages and ability. Puzzlewood is a 15 minute drive which is said to have provided the inspiration for Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and more recently has been a film location for Doctor Who, Star Wars and other TV series and Hollywood movies. Mallards pike is a lovely lake nearby with Segways and Go Ape. Symonds Yat is a short drive where there is a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the River Wye where you can also see the peregrine falcons flying around and nesting on the cliff face. You can also hire Kayaks here if you want a closer view of the river! In the town you can find supermarkets (Co-op and Lidl), a butcher, coffee and a sandwich (green hill coffee shop) or for a small selection of takeaways- The Curry Leaf is great for Indian food and the magic wok is a good Chinese which delivers. You can now get Sunday roast deliveries from the farmers boy inn which are lovely. The property is 5 minutes drive from the Speech House hotel which is lovely for afternoon tea. I can recommend The Tudor house hotel in Clearwell for a fancy evening meal and the Miner’s arms at Sling for a great Sunday roast. There is a Marks and Spencer simply food and Waitrose in Monmouth (approx 20 mins away) with many independent and high street shops and a good reclamation yard. In Ross on Wye (also approx 20 mins away) you can find a Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s, Costa and Starbucks coffee shops and KFC. There is also a nail bar and some good antique shops. Historic Gloucester is a 30 minute drive away, where you can visit the stunning cathedral which was another filming location, this time for 2 Harry Potter films and the docks and Quays are worth visiting for a spot of lunch and shopping. The beautiful spa town of Cheltenham is a 40 minute drive. Tintern Abbey and Chepstow castle are also worth a visit and are approx 30 minutes drive away. I have also created an online guest book for more recommendations of places to visit and places to eat. A car is essential for getting around the local area Well behaved dogs are permitted with prior arrangement at an additional fee of £40 per dog per stay and there is a secure garden to ensure your pets are safe. The guests have sole use of the property and the garden so it is easy to socially distance. We operate a contactless check-in and out process. Guests are kindly asked that they do not smoke inside the property. There is off road parking for 2 cars. One of the single rooms is downstairs. Due to the corona virus we will be adhering to an even more rigorous cleaning schedule prior to new arrivals. There is a high chair, stair gate and cot for babies/toddlers.
