The Pink House is a unique holiday cottage: small enough for a romantic weekend; big enough for a family holiday. The decor is a quirky blend of the rustic and the industrial with the addition of driftwood artifacts made by the owner. (Please view the photographs). Pricing starts at £80.00 per night for up to four guests. For each additional guest there is a charge of £20.00 per night. There is no charge for the hot tub. The Pink House was built in the 19th century to house employees of the Weardale railway. Originally a two up two down terraced cottage with an outside toilet, it has been extended and improved and now has nine rooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen is spacious, well equipped and includes a range cooker. The dining room can seat up to 12 and has a smart TV. The living room has a wood burner, a TV and an extensive DVD collection. On the first and second floors are the five bedrooms. THE WOOD FIRED HOT TUB: On your arrival the hot tub will be hot and ready to use. If you wish to use it on subsequent days it will require re-heating. A detailed set of instruction on how to do this is provided. The Pink House was the family home of Tom and Helen Matthews. They now live at no 3 Enginemans Terrace (two doors away) and are available, if required, to offer guests help, support and assistance. Wear Valley Junction is a small rural hamlet in the Durham countryside. It is a mile and half from Witton le Wear, three miles from Bishop Auckland and nine miles from Durham City. The Weardale railway passes through, 100 yards from the cottage. Alongside the line is a path to Witton le Wear and a bridle path popular with walkers and horse riders runs past the front of Engineman's Terrace to Howden le Wear. Low Barns nature reserve is a short walk away. Neighbours run a small holding and keep sheep, pigs, hens, ducks and turkeys - often to be seen in the fields at the front and rear of the terrace. Wear Valley Junction has a thriving wild bird population and many common species can be seen. The best way to get around in Wear Valley Junction is on foot. Witton le Wear with it's two pubs is a pleasant stroll and the nature reserve is a ten minute walk. During the Summer trains up the valley to Stanhope can be caught at Witton le Wear station. Buses and trains to many parts of the county can be caught from Bishop Auckland. Both Crook and Bishop Auckland have taxi companies which will pick up at Wear Valley Junction. We are happy to host families and groups who respect the peace and tranquility of Wear Valley Junction and who appreciate the calm and relaxed atmosphere of The Pink House. It is not the place for STAG PARTIES, HEN PARTIES or noisy parties.
