Gear Storage available There's a lot to see and do in Elko County. The Western Folklife Center, Northeastern Nevada Museum, and the California Trail Interpretive Center are highlights, with sightseeing, hiking, and fishing in the Ruby Mountains--20 minutes away. The Bunkhouse is truly a "Destination Experience" because of the variety of things to see and do and the natural beauty right outside the front door! Cowboy Country AirBNB is a full apartment below our home with Airbnb space separate from our home upstairs. The small room and stairwell to upstairs is closed to guest access, and the heating system (electric baseboard, each room) is separate from our home upstairs. We have optimal room for 1-5 guests, Groups larger than 2 will be charged $20 more per guest. Computer desk, wireless Internet, "thing-charger, audio hookups for your favorite mixes. We are a non-smoking facility. Because of severe allergies, no smoking inside the AirBNB. You're welcome to smoke outside, away from the front door. I'm delighted you've stopped to stay in the Bunkhouse. Please let me know if there's is anything you need to make your stay more pleasant. Forgot anything? Need another small pan for the stove? Please call me; I'm directly above you and am glad to help with anything you need. My favorite "teasing" joke: "If you're roasting a turkey during your stay, please let me know and I'll bring down my turkey roaster for you!" An outside patio with table and chairs and barbecue grill (briquets and starter fluid) is a comfortable gathering place for star gazing and conversation. You may also walk around the property in front of the Airbnb, through our pasture, down the gravel road leading to the property, and the property in back of our house. The gravel road leading to Airbnb makes a longer walk--about 1 hour over the hill to a view of the Ruby Mountains. In nice weather you're welcome to take a nap in the hammock under the trees. If you've brought your dogs feel free to take them for a walk down the gravel road and farther up the hill across Boyd-Kennedy Ave. Bathroom area for dogs is away from the Bnb. The flower bed by the patio area is NOT a designated bathroom area for pets. The flower bed is just that, a flower bed; not a bathroom area. Thank you! I have plastic grocery bags in the cabinet in the kitchen you may carry with you on the walk. Many guests come from the San Francisco area and don't always understand the distance involved between California and northeastern Nevada. They often arrive at the bnb after midnight. If that will be your case let me know, and I'll leave the door unlocked for you and outdoor lights on. You can check yourself in! In that case, I'll meet you in the morning, if it's ok with you. The Bunkhouse is the perfect place to spend the night to and from San Francisco, Yellowstone, the Tetons. We love having guests stop to spend the night, but we really enjoy it when guests stay longer and experience northeastern Nevada. There's so much to see and do here. Take your son or daughter fishing at South Fork reservoir (20 min away). Hike with the family to a mountain lake, camp or picnic in the Ruby Mountains. Take your boat and fish the Ruby Marshes. Drive north through hills covered in wildflowers and quaking aspen canyons to visit Jarbidge, Idaho. Drive south through Nevada's basin-and-range topography to catch glimpses of wild horse herds. Spend days in Nevada's open back country sightseeing, hiking, fishing, and return to the bunkhouse for a quiet evening on the patio or take a nap in one of the hammocks strung in the trees. In Winter bring your snow mobile or cross-country skis to play in the snow. The California Trail Interpretive Center is interesting, a great educational experience for children. The Western Folklife Center, home of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering is unique, in the historic Pioneer Hotel and bar in the center of Elko. A bike path runs east along highway 227 to Spring Creek, west to Khoury's grocery, and the many back roads are great for family riding. More extreme biking can be found at Elko's Sno Bowl, up the road in the Ruby Mountains, and the road to Angel Lake, outside Wells, NV to the east. Free parking in front of the flower bed at the BnB. While you tour Elko we will safely store your recreational vehicles, motor bikes, boats, snow mobiles, bikes, ATVs, and your trailers for a small fee, $20. Storage for equipment, ski, snowshoes, climbing, hiking, camping gear is inside the BnB. Elko was settled over a hundred years ago by the railroads, and ranchers with cattle/sheep. In those years Basque herders spent their time in hills and mountains with their sheep. Basque boarding houses and restaurants today testify to their early presence. The Star Hotel and restaurant, Silver street in Elko, is a popular spot for afternoon and evening gathering. Toki-Ono, Idaho Street, serves traditional Basque dining. Gaming, legal in Nevada, also played a part in Nevada's settlement, and, after the early 70's, gold mining again became important to our economy. If you're working for a mine in the area we can house you in the BNB. The BNB is within walking distance of two mine parking lots where buses ferry workers to mine sites. You may have guests visit the BnB as long as you let us know ahead of time. Some guests have entertained family members during holidays and that's fine as long as you ask ahead of time. Those guests, though, are not eligible for showers, WiFi access, or extended stays. All guests of guests must be off the property no later than 10:00 pm and are not welcome onto the property before 9:00 am. Under no circumstances are guests of our guests allowed to sleep on the premises or outside of the BnB on our property. Our guests are under contract with an agreement with AirBnB and us. If there is a problem with a guest of a guest the ramifications of that problem will result in termination of our guest's contract to stay with us, and guest and guests of that guest will vacate the property immediately with no refund. If you request a stay of a month or longer, long-term stay, please make yourself familiar with our guidelines below: "Also a starter pack of toilet paper, shampoo, dish detergent, coffee/tea. You may have guests, but, as mentioned above, guests may not stay overnight, and may not use the shower or Internet connection. There is no smoking allowed inside the apartment. You may contact us by phone or through AirBnB online."
