Beautiful traditional highland cottage set in a small village within easy reach of the isle of Skye, Plockton, Applecross and Lochcarron. The local Pub is only a few minutes walk away and the larger village of Lochcarron which has shops, garage, restaurants and craft shops a five minute drive. Red deer cottage is an ideal base for walking, cycling and exploring the West Highlands; with great photo opportunities and wonderful scenery. red deer cottage has a double bedroom to the rear of the house and a twin to the front, so very comfortably sleeps 4 people. The bedrooms are situated upstairs and here you will also find the bathroom with shower enclosure. Downstairs there is a large lounge with comfortable sofa and two arm chairs. There is also a flat screen TV with freesat channels. There is a dining alcove off of the lounge area complete with dining table and four chairs. The kitchen which is newly installed has a full size cooker, fridge and washing machine. You will also find everything you need to prepare, cook and serve meals. There is a back door from the kitchen which takes you directly into the large garden with far reaching rural views. The house has central heating with radiators in every room. As a guest at Red Deer Cottage you have complete access to the house. The drive at the side of the house is shared with the lovely family who live next door so is only used for access and not parking; but parking is not a problem as there is room right outside the house to park your car. I do not live on site but am available by phone, text or email should you need to contact me. Entry to the house is by keysafe which gives guests the privacy to come and go as they prefer. There is a hotel at the junction with the main road which has a pub and stocks beer from the local Strathcarron Brewery; the brewery itself is located further up the street from the house. The local railway station is only a few minutes walk away. The line is used by the the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh train; there are only a few per day, During the summer months it also has regular visits by the Royal Scotsman and the occasional steam train can be seen puffing its way through the glen and on to Kyle. This rail route is claimed to be among the most scenic in scotland and if you have time it is worth fitting in a trip to Kyle of Lochalsh and experience the railway as it wends its way hugging the rugged coastline through quaint little villages with free roaming highland cattle, and of course you will pass the beautiful village of Plockton famous for its palm trees and Hamish MacBeth! A car is a good idea here although not completely necessary as the railway station is almost on your doorstep, although the trains are not frequent but with some planning it is possible to work a way around that. There is limited bus service; a mini bus meets most of the trains and takes passengers to Lochcarron and Sheildaig. Many people like the area for the walking though and you are spoilt for choice on either low level or higher level walks in the area, from gentle strolls to more strenuous hillwalks there is something for everyone. The hamlet of Strathcarron is a peaceful place and often you can see deer wander down the street or across the adjacent fields. There is no street lighting which makes for some lovely stargazing on a cloud-free night, but there is an exterior light to help you find your way home in the dark. In addition to the deer plenty of other wildlife also frequent the area and you may catch a glimpse of the cheeky but charming pine martins, hear the hooting of the owls and the rutting of the deer, the latter only in the late Autumn though.
