Steeped in history and truly one of a kind, get a taste of life behind bars but unlike the previous occupants you’ll enjoy it in comfort with a mix of contemporary and traditional decor, original features in abundance including vaulted ceilings, flagstone floors and feature fireplaces. Recently renovated to a high standard with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, whist maintaining the unique character of the property. The Apartment Once Jail Cells dating back to the 19th Century they have served their time and now form a beautiful and unique 1 bedroom self catering apartment at heart of the historic town of Inveraray. An original part of Inveraray Jail which is now a popular tourist attraction adjoining the property which offers our guests a discount on entry. From the ground floor entrance the original stone staircase leads to the first floor living area. The apartment consists of an inviting Double Bedroom which is stylishly decorated. The properties bathroom is located directly off the bedroom and is a bright contemporary space with a rainfall shower, basin and toilet. The living area is welcoming and has a flatscreen TV, 3 seater sofa bed which sleeps 2 and a dining table which can seat 4. You’ll get a glimpse of the beautiful view of Loch Fyne from the shoreline which lies just a few feet around the corner. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a small breakfast bar. Location The property is ideally situated, tucked in a quiet corner in the heart of the town, a stones throw from Inveraray’s main street with its shops, pubs and bistros, and the stunning Loch Fyne shoreline just around the corner. A short walk to Inveraray Castle and a perfect base to explore Inveraray and the stunning west coast. History The apartment is a listed building which formed part of Inveraray Jail and the Old Police Station. It housed Debtors until their debts were settled and you’ll find nods everywhere to its past including the original bars on the entrance window. It then became living quarters for jail employees. Neil Munro renowned novelist and poet of Parahandy fame lived in the apartment as a boy with his mother who married the Governor of Inveraray Jail. The properly is located on the first floor up a set of stairs and therefore unfortunately may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. The living area is all on one level. With a young family ourselves we are delighted to welcome children to stay in the apartment. Please however note that there is no bath. We are happy to provide a baby bath and travel cot. We recommend if you are staying with children under 5 you message us in advance of booking so we can help in planning your stay and provide equipment that may be helpful to you.
