Happy Go Lucky Hideout Walhalla
Period style cabin set into the mountain above the historic township of Walhalla, close to the Goldfields Railway, Long Tunnel Extended Goldmine, snow fields, hiking, motorcycle & mountain bike trails, 5kms from the Thomson river kayak & canoe trail. Our mountain hideaway is a short distance from the sleepy mountainside township of Walhalla, steeped in the history of Victoria's gold rush era. Take a relaxing stroll through the lovingly restored centre full of heritage buildings of a bygone era. The feature of Happy Go Lucky Hideout is that it is a completely "off the grid," eco friendly house, utilising solar, lpg and tank water, so no air con, no TV, no hairdryers, no microwave - this is your chance to switch off and get back to basics! Enjoy the peacefulness of the surrounding bush - you may even see a lyrebird or a wallaby. We have a wood heater, lpg heater (complete with carbon monoxide alarm), gas stove top and fridge, gas hooded bbq, gas hot water and solar lights. There is enough solar power to charge your phones and laptops if you don't want to switch off completely. Our house is private and secluded in the mountains above the township of Walhalla, just a short walk away from the historic town centre. Only a phone call away Explore the shops, old hotels and churches, built in the 1800s. Take a ghost tour through the old cemetery on the hill which can be seen from the balcony of our house. Numerous walking tracks & trails including the Walhalla Tramline Walk above the township, Poverty Point Bridge Walk and the begining of the Australian Alpine Walking track which will take you all the way to Canberra. Cyclists can ride through the magnificent forests on the Walhalla Goldfields Rail Trail.
