Sandhya - A quaint retreat in the Himalayas

Sandhya is a quaint village hut in the Himalayas. It was restored from an original structure that is believed to be more more than 60-70 years old. As a result, it has a unique charm about it- little quirks that give us a glimpse how local people lived here and their sensibilities. For example, the door heights are always very low- just above 4 ft- so do mind your heads when you enter! Sandhya offers a chance to experience life in an authentic mountain home. We are a fun family with two animals, 4 local villagers helping us on our farm and my daughter and I- and we would love to have you join the crew. My cottage is next door to Sandhya. You'll have access to the whole farm. We are doing lots of planting, making a garden from a scratch, growing vegetables and in summer picking fruits from the orchards- feel free to get involved. My cottage is next door to the guest cottage. When I'm around, you can drop by any time should you need any help. It maybe that when are here, I am travelling. In that case, Mansigh and Bhagwati, the two caretakers of the property, are available from roughly 9:00 am till 6:00 for any help required:) We are situated in a rural setting and are surrounded by forests and other homes in the village. Road access is about a 15 minute walk. It is ideal for quite time, walking in the countryside and hiking in the Mukhteshwar forest. There is a lovely NGO-Aarohi just around the corner. They have a shop with local products and a charming school for local children. Villages are very idyllic here so walking is the best pastime. Closest town Almora is about 50 minutes drive away. Mukhteshwar is 40 minutes drive. There are plenty of hiking and cycling options in the area. Your car can be parked by the last gate of the Satkhol Ashram. From there we are a downhill walk of about 10 minutes. our staff will meet you there and help with carrying the luggage. Our cook and caretaker and generally wonder woman Bhagwati can provide simple vegetarian lunches and dinners cooked on the chullah. it is INR 150/ meal/person. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, a gas stove and a fridge so you can heat the meals as and when you wish. Our guests cool their won breakfast. We can provide milk, tea and sugar. please do carry the test of cooking ingredients, snacks etc with you.
