The studio is in Pangrati-Mets, directly behind the Panathenaic (Kallimarmaro) Stadium, the first Olympic stadium of the modern era. This typical Athenian neighborhood is very central and desirable. It is all at once, vivid, trendy, peaceful and very safe. Every Friday there is a street market right in front of the house, where you can buy locally produced fresh fruits, vegetables, olive oil, wine and flowers. There are many cool cafes, tavernas, restaurants, bars and souvlakerias very close by, as well as supermarkets, bakeries, banks, kiosks, pharmacies and a taxi stand. The Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, National Gardens, Byzantine Museum, Cycladic Museum, Benaki Museum, Presidential Palace, and the newly refurbished National Gallery are all an easy walk from the studio. The ancient Roman theatre Odeon of Herodes Atticus, located at the base of the Acropolis, is also conveniently close. It is the main venue for the international Athens Festival (music, drama, and dance) every summer. Also, the newly opened Goulandris Museum is less than a 5 minute walk from the studio. It holds one of the most important collections in Europe of Impressionist and 20th Century art. On the same road as the studio, just a few buildings away, is the Athens Centre, the oldest and most prestigious school for foreigners to learn Modern Greek and a cultural centre with many literary events in English. From the studio it is an easy 15-20 minute walk to the Acropolis and all the most important sites. Public buses to the city centre and taxi connections are conveniently close by. Within a few minutes' walk of the studio, there is a direct tram to the Athens Riviera and its popular beaches and clubs. A new tramline with conveniently direct connections to Piraeus Port is expected to open in 2021. The metro and a special bus to Piraeus Port (ferries to Aegean Islands and Crete) leave from Syntagma Square, which is about 20 minutes by foot, less than 10 minutes by taxi. Also at Syntagma, there is a direct bus to the airport running 24 hours per day every day (Bus X95). In front of the Panathenaic (Kallimarmaro) Stadium (a 5 minute walk from the studio), you can catch special city sightseeing buses to all the major sites and Piraeus.
