At only 3km from Guimaraes, this Manor House (Solar) dates back to 1508 and is surrounded by a most beautiful country side. We offer an elegant, cozy and indepedent apartment with 140m2: The Corn House for 4 people (+ 1 free baby bed). Some recent comments from Guests & Friends: We were looking for a peaceful, beautiful place in countryside to take our newborn baby to... we found that and more here at the manor house! The host and keepers are super friendly! They were always available for anything we needed and even gave us wine and veggies from the farm! The house is beautiful and peaceful.. surrounded by the calming sounds of nature.. and the swimming pool super refreshing! Finally, having Guimarães as the nearest city was a plus! It´s a gorgeous city! very nice for wandering around through the historic streets, and has lots of nice restaurants. We had a great time!!! Mariana A really wonderful guesthouse, 30min Walk from the centre of Guimarães. Conor A really fabulous place to stay in northern Portugal. Just outside the historic city of Guimares. It’s quiet, comfortable, and the owners make you feel very welcome. Gilles Magnífico lugar, con mucha tranquilidad y espacio para ocio y descanso, y poca distancia de Guimarães. Totalmente recomendable. Antonio It's the perfect place, an oasis of peace with a beautiful secluded garden and pool surrounded by amazing fields and forest. It's a stunning traditional house with so much history, while the apartments are nicely refurbished and modern. The location is absolutely perfect, short drive to many amazing old towns like Guimaraes, Braga, Ponte di Lima. Even the beach, the National Park and the Douro Valley are around 1 hour drive. And the best thing is the host family, amazingly friendly, generous & helpful making you feel part of the family. I highly recommended and we will be back! Martijn The accommodation is set at the edge of Guimaraes but the drive into town is easy and quick. Once out of the "estate" where it is, the drive is straight and we found parking easy and cheap. The house is part of a converted stables/barn of an old manor house and it is wonderful. It is done out nicely with a blend of oldie world/modern white Ikea which works well. The double room is downstairs and you can leave the windows open as there are bars on the windows which keep it cooler. The double room with en suite is in the mezzanine. It can get hot up there but we were provided with a fan. The kitchen is really a kitchenette in a large cupboard which was fine for us. it has two hobs, a fridge and narrow dishwasher. If you want to do laundry, the washing machine is in the main building and you can use it freely. The people living there are really helpful and even hung out our laundry to dry for us. The old house is beautiful, a real period piece. The pool is a natural spring pool approached across the lawned courtyard through gates. You feel like you are entering Tom's Midnight Garden. The property really is on the edge of town so has nothing around it. You can sit out at night and watch the bats fly around. We walked to see the donkeys, a foal having recently been born. The path was dragonfly heaven, which our boys loved. one of our sons also found a frog. There really is a lot of wildlife around. The property ahs an air of faded glory about it. The family were very kind, letting us stay and use the facilities after check out because our flight was late in the evening. It is also only about a 40 minute drive from Porto airport. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and recommend it. Marike We've visited the Corn House for a week. It's a magnificent place, beautiful and peaceful. It looks as nice as it does in the pictures. The house is situated next to an old farmhouse at the very end of an old road in Fermentoes, a village near Guimaraes. We've visited many nice places nearby, travelling by car. The trip to Guimaraes is very short, about 10 minutes. In Fermentoes itself you can buy all basic necessities. This was our first holiday with our 6 months old baby, and it was perfect. The electric heaters were nice, we needed them some of the nights, and were comfortable this way. The house was fully equipped, very thoughtful! The place is most lovely in spring and summer, this way you can enjoy the gardens and pool. We would definitely recommend this apartment to fellow travelers who are looking for a tranquil stay, a base to discover northern Portugal. Thank you! Dorien From an article in Publico Magazine, FUGAS: It's not easy to find, but once you get to the House of Minotes you do not want to leave any more. Near Guimarães, an old barn and a coach house have been transformed into comfortable apartments that mix the old with the modern. All around are streams running, a nice couple of Mirandese donkeys and chestnuts ready to sow. Despite being less than half a dozen kilometers from the center of Guimarães, Casa de Minotes is a hidden gem. Two tall, slender cedars mark the entrance to the house. As soon as we passed the green gate we began to hear the soothing sound of running water. We are not sure where it comes from, as the beautiful stone tank, which we will later discover, is hidden by a linden tree and hydrangeas. We are on the lawn and the main house appears on our right. Augusto makes the honors of the visit and guides us through the property. We start with the main house, which, he explains, has been documented for over five centuries. Yes, five centuries always in the same family, .., the Solar is classified as a property of public interest. … We continue to the organic garden, where you can see the last tomatoes of the season and go to the chicken houses, where the turkeys live with the chickens and chickens of India. We climbed to the threshing floor and continued to some fenced fields where Grazia and Alice, a nice pair of Mirandese donkeys, and where we spied a four-month-old foal suckling on its mother. Most indifferent to our presence are the two Lusitanian horses of the farm. We continue towards the oak forest and along the way we discover several chestnut trees, with many hedgehogs already on the ground, where we will linger later. On the promenade we come across small watercourses that lead further down the Selho river, near one of the property's boundaries. .. We continue down a corridor of bushes and end up in one of the most special corners of the farm: the pool. It is an enclosed garden in which the "walls" are lined with colorful meadows, trees and shrubs. The entrance is marked by an arch of rose bushes. … We left the pool and met again on the lawn where we began the visit. It now remains to know the barn and coach, transformed into two apartments. The conversion was very successful, as was the decoration, which mixes old and modern objects, creating a classic and comfortable atmosphere. Each house has a cozy mezzanine and another bedroom with two beds. The kitchenettes are hidden by doors that simulate cabinets, but are equipped with everything needed for a family to spend a few days. At night, concentrated in the silence, we again feel the water running. And we fall asleep without difficulty. In the morning the music is another. The birds offer a symphony in which a soloist stands out, whom we cannot identify. After breakfast, the responsibility of the guests, we return to the chestnut trees. The catch is not exempt from some small bites, but the effort was well worth it. The nuts were great! From Porto follow Highway A3 direction Braga. Excess Famalicão, turn to A7 - direction Guimaraes. Enter Guimaraes and follow EN105 direction Braga. Continue until a roundabout with a LIDL supermarket. Turn to São Torcato and take the first street right (at only 30 metres of the roundabout). Some meters in front you will find a small triangel. Turn left into streat - Rua de Souto e Minotes. Follow the street always to your left until it straightens to a dirt road. The Manor is located at the end of Rua de Souto e Minotes. When you see a green gate with two high ceddar trees, you have arrived. Welcome!!
