Hop Pickers' Cottage is an old cottage used by early hop pickers and still retaining the same atmosphere but modernised to accommodate guests with a cosy wood heater. Set in nearly 50ha rainforest with a beautiful creek. Available for private use or suitable in conjunction with other cottages for groups. Hop Pickers Cottage is one of 3 cottages and an old farmhouse which form the eco retreat of "Sassafras Springs"set in 50ha of mainly rainforest with a beautiful creek.and forest walk. Available for private use or for groups in conjunction with our other cottages for groups. Guests are welcome to pick and use seasonal produce from our organic vegetable garden and orchard and eggs from the hens. There is a Picnic Hut with BBQ, Story Hut, Art Shed, playground. Our managers Grant & Marieke live on site and are usually available for support. There is a lovely forest walk on the property which takes approximately one hour and takes you through a varying terrain. The Mt Field National Park is within half an hour drive with Russell Falls as being a major attraction. The Maydena Bike Park is also within half hour drive and New Norfolk with its antique stores is 40 minutes from the property. Private car is definitely preferable means of transport in the area We recommend you to purchase food for your meals on route. If you come from the north or west, the closest food store to us is a Mini IGA Supermarket at Ouse, approximately 20 minutes drive. If you come from the direction of Hobart, there is a Woolworths Supermarket in New Norfolk, which is approximately 40 minutes away. There are not a lot of options for eating out for dinner. Our organic garden usually provides some additional vegetable delights during spring and summer and our cottages have great kitchen facilities.
