Charming Secluded Barn with Pool & Hot Tub
Large pool and wood-fired hot tub! Stunning six bedroom 18th century wood and stone barn with a private heated pool and hot tub in a secluded valley. Large, new farmhouse kitchen, spacious living, al fresco dining, large gardens, wifi and every modern comfort. It's the perfect place from which to explore this unspoiled area. Note: The barn is very old and is traditionally heated by gorgeous log fires which adds to the atmosphere and charm. There is, however, a back-up central heating system. Renovated in 2019, La Grange is an ode to ancient timber, stones and ceramic tiles. Sleeping up to 13 guests, the wow factor starts as soon as you approach the house from the sleepy lane with its welcome entrance. The rustic exterior belies the vast, comfortable and inviting spaces inside, and it’s perfect for families; there's a large pool, two barbecues, games, active and thoughtful - indoors and out - and eight bikes. The huge sitting room has an equally huge fireplace topped by a gargantuan beam, myriad armchairs and a hunting-lodge atmosphere. The double-height dining room is in lovely old stone and through a rough-hewn ancient door lies the real treasure: the huge, newly extended, beautiful sunny kitchen with all you could need and glorious views. The large wooden refectory table is perfect to plan the day’s activities around and there is an island/breakfast bar for morning coffee and croissant. Every possible convenience has been thought of including a great welcome pack of local produce. Upstairs, bedrooms are done with style and originality; the big master suite is an absolute wow of creative décor and has a beautiful old cast iron bath in the ensuite. There are some fine pieces of furniture too, in white rooms with knotty pine floors. There are a total of five bathrooms. The 'new side' has two - one with a bath and shower and one with a shower cubicle. The 'old side' has three - one with a free standing bath and a shower cubicle plus two with smaller shower cubicles. To the front of the house is the well tended garden with the private, heated and fenced swimming pool. There is plenty of poolside and garden furniture to help you relax and enjoy the ambience. Parasols provide shade during the heat of the summer. The kitchen leads to a sunny courtyard and gardens to the rear of the house. There are shaded corners, trees to snooze under and views to die for! For those of you wanting to stay over the winter months (Christmas is simply magical!) there are piles of logs for the wood burning stove in the hall and in the living room which primarily heat the barn, but there is also a back-up oil central heating system which stops it getting too cold - but this is definitely an old fashioned, wooly-jumper, huddle round the fire type trip in the winter. It's like going back in time (in a good way!) Our managers speak English and know the area inside and out with all that there is to do in the fascinating Limousin: historic towns, picturesque medieval villages, watersports, Limoges china with Cognac and Bourdeaux both two to three hours away. La Grange is set in a delightful rural valley in wooded countryside. Although this is the sleepy part of the Haute Vienne, and the perfect hideaway, there is much to explore in this beautiful area. Magnac Laval has an old quarter and delightful riverside. Limoges is definitely worth a visit and is famed for its porcelain. Also worth visiting are Bellac, Le Dorat, Montmorillon and Mortemart to name just a few. Only 30 minutes away is Lac de St. Pardoux with large sandy area, water sports, horse riding and cycling. More info is in the guest guide. Because it is traditionally heated by gorgeous log fires, the barn can be less warm in colder weather than say, a modern centrally heated hotel. We love this aspect of the old place and so do our guests. It is like stepping back in time waking up on a crisp morning and warming the place back up by stoking the fires. Just don't expect to walk around in PJ's until you've burnt a few logs! The guests have full use of all facilities. We even provide eight bikes! We have English speaking property managers who are on hand if you need anything. Located on the edge of Les Combes, close to the original chateau, in its 1000 acres of woodlands, this is the perfect setting for those looking for seclusion. The pretty market town of Magnac Laval is only eight minutes away with restaurants, cafes and a weekly farmers market. The bustling town of Limoges is only 45 minutes away. We do recommend car hire and there is plenty of parking for multiple vehicles. We provide eight serviced bikes, table tennis, two BBQ's, ample parking and large gardens.
