Filberts is a delightful self contained detached studio loft apartment, forming part of Church Cottage smallholding in Newenden, a historic Domesday Book village on the Kent/East Sussex border, with pub, cafe and river ferry in 5 minutes walking distance. Newenden is recognised as one of the 10 prettiest villages in Kent (Kent Life Magazine) and is also the smallest village in Kent. We happily accept babies - a travel cot is usually available. ** 15% discount for 7 or more nights bookings ** **Please note that we follow the Airbnb cleaning guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and require all guests to take a non-contact temperature check on arrival to protect future guests and ourselves. We hope you will understand this and appreciate the reason.** The apartment consists of an open plan studio double bedroom and kitchen area, with flat screen Freesat HD TV, Blu Ray DVD player, free wi-fi, electric oven, induction hob, fridge, freezer and microwave; there is an en suite shower room with a heated towel rail and shaver socket. All bed linen, towels and tea towels are supplied and included in the price. Private off road parking is provided immediately outside the apartment. Laundry service can be provided in the main house at extra cost. A welcome pack is provided for all guests on arrival. There is a small private and sheltered seating area immediately next to Filberts and guests are also welcome, by arrangement, to use the main garden area of the cottage. We have a professionally installed Type 1 Electric Vehicle (EV) charger, which is available for guest use. Electricity used will be charged at cost. Guests have access to the main garden and are also welcome to visit the smallholding, which is joined to but separate from the garden. We live in Church Cottage, which adjoins Filberts, and are happy to give information and advice about the many local attractions and walks. Newenden, the smallest village in Kent, is very friendly and surrounded by many attractions and National Trust properties. Below is a list of just some of them! Places to visit: Great Dixter House and Garden (5 minutes) Bodiam Castle (10 minutes) Rye (where Mapp and Lucia was filmed in 2014) (15 minutes) Sissinghurst (15 minutes) Tenterden (10 minutes) Pashley Manor (25 minutes) Batemans (Rudyard Kipling’s home) (25 minutes) Hastings & Jerwood Gallery (20 minutes) Tunbridge Wells (30 minutes) Battle (30 minutes) Other attractions: Smallholding Bodiam Boating Station (5 minutes walk) - hire rowing boats, take a ferry to Bodiam Castle + cafe Country/riverside Walks White Hart pub in village for food and drink (2 minute walk) Rother Rides - guided tours on eBikes (30 seconds walk) Kent and East Sussex Railway steam trains (5 minutes) Morgan Motor Museum (Rolvenden) (5 minutes) Watch cricket on the village cricket ground (30 seconds walk) Please note that our EV Charger is for Type 1 sockets. Due to spiralling energy costs we have to ask that guests pay for charging at cost. Trains to London in 55-60 minutes from Staplehurst (allow 1/2 hour to drive there, park and purchase tickets). Infrequent bus service through the village. The White Hart pub in Newenden is less than 2 minutes walk from Filberts and provides good quality pub food, real ales and a friendly welcome. It is currently operating as normal and has a large garden. Bodiam Boating Station on the River Rother - about five minutes walk - has a cafe and provides ferries to Bodiam Castle plus boat hire. NB: The ferry service is suspended at present, but boats can still be hired Rother Rides provide guided tours on local off road byways on eBikes - a great way to discover new parts of Kent and Sussex and only 30 seconds away from this property! Please note that Filberts has an external wooden stair case to the front door, so may not be suitable for guests with serious mobility issues.
