Ocean View is a modern, detached coastal residence accommodating up to 10 people, with all the main rooms enjoying stunning, uninterrupted sea and coastal views over St Austell Bay and the surrounding coastline. This upmarket property offers a touch of luxury for that special Cornish family holiday, with 5 double bedrooms, four bathrooms (2 en-suite), an open-plan kitchen/living room, dining room, lounge and parking for 4 cars. Stone steps lead you through a tiered, landscaped garden to a patio terrace, a perfect vantage point for some patio drinks as you watch the local fishing boats working in the bay. The house has an open plan kitchen/living area, a separate dining room and a lounge. There are 4 bedrooms upstairs and one double downstairs with it's own bathroom. Children are welcome. Please note the property is non-smoking and no pets are permitted. Bookings are made on a Friday to Friday basis during peak periods and by negotiation at other times during the year. The whole house. MEVAGISSEY Ocean View enjoys an elevated cliff top position just 5 minutes walk from Mevagissey's twin harbours. A brief walk in the other direction is Portmellon cove with its public slipway, beach and inn. Mevagissey is an unspoilt, traditional Cornish fishing village with a colourful history of smuggling and an active local fishing fleet. It was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery, with earliest records dating it back to the 14th Century. It’s maze of narrow streets and alleyways are filled with local art galleries and craft shops and the harbour is surrounded by many good restaurants, pubs and cafes where you can relax and enjoy the local produce. LOCATION Positioned on the South West Coastal path, the whole area offers stunning coastline views stretching right up the coast to Rame Head and provides the perfect setting for fabulous walks, historic gardens & country houses and beautiful beaches. A short drive away is the hamlet of Pentewan with it’s sandy beach, sailing club and off-road cycle trail. A little further afield you’ll find the historic town of Charlestown, where scenes from Poldark were filmed and of course, a must for any visitor is the world renowned Eden Project. Fowey is a 35 minute ferry trip across St Austell Bay, with the chance of glimpsing dolphins and other sea life. PLACES TO EAT Mevagissey has a large number of good restaurants and pubs and we’ve never had a bad meal in any of them. If you have a younger family, the Sharksfin on the harbour front is consistently excellent and the Harbour Tavern is also child friendly. If you want to travel slightly further afield, we can recommend the Polgooth Inn in Polgooth, The Crown Inn at St Ewe or The Barley Sheaf at Gorran Churchtown. LOCAL PLACES TO VISIT Gorran Haven: an unspoilt coastal village and harbour at the heart of which is a cluster of fishermen’s cottages, nestling around a secluded cove. Pentewan: a local historic village with a lovely sandy beach, sailing club and off-road cycle trail. Charlestown: Shipwreck & Heritage Centre, with a pretty harbour where scenes from Poldark were filmed. Eden Project: a ‘must’ for any visitor with it’s world famous Biomes, just the other side of St Austell, it’s around 25 minutes drive. Fowey: a very pretty, ancient harbourside town on the side of the Fowey estuary, popular with sailors it is well worth a visit. The Mevagissey to Fowey Ferry runs from late April – end Sept and is a 35-minute ferry trip across St Austell Bay. St Austell's mainline station provides a direct link to London Paddington with a journey time of approximately 4 hours. There are regular bus services from St Austell to Mevagissey. Local Taxi services: Mevagissey Cars White River Cars, St Austell A2B Taxis, based at St Austell Rail Station Owner’s requests No pets or smoking: no pets or smoking are permitted in the property. No anti-social noise: Mevagissey is a quiet village and noise can carry far & wide. In consideration of our neighbours, we operate a no anti-social noise policy from 11pm to 7am and ask you to kindly respect this. White carpets & dirty shoes! We inherited white carpets upstairs with the house, which look attractive, but are not very practical. In an effort to keep them clean, we request that you kindly take outside shoes off before going upstairs. The wicker basket sideboard in the dining room is provided specifically for shoe storage. Your assistance is much appreciated! Log fire in lounge: please DO NOT light the log fire in the lounge as the chimney sometimes gets blocked with a bird’s nest. The logs are merely for cosmetic purposes! Toilets: Please do not flush any other product apart from toilet tissue down the toilet. Beach towels: the towels provided are for use in the house, please use your own towels on the beach. Damage & spillages: please clean up any spillages as quickly as possible. If you have an accident causing lasting damage, please report it to us as quickly as possible so we can arrange for cleaning or repair.
