The Piggery is a delightful, sun filled, light and airy, two bedroom, two bathroom detached home on Ham Farm. Stylish, cosy and beautifully designed and hand made by artists, The Piggery offers a unique and unforgettable stay near the coast in Devon. The traditional Orchard to the South, planted by us fifteen years ago, boasts vintage cider apples, delicious cookers and eaters plus mulberry, plums, perry pears, medlar and quince. We produce our own cider and apple juice too.. This contemporary and highly original home at Ham Farm in rural South Devon offers all the modern conveniences, including a dishwasher and washer. Every item has been carefully chosen or made to compliment the architecture and to ensure a comfortable stay. Much of it designed and made by the owners or their friends. Whether you decide to sit at home and enjoy the serenity of the countryside, the views over the orchard, private garden and patio and the cosy warmth of the wood burning stove, or travel farther afield to enjoy the exquisite landscape of the South Hams from a very central location, The Piggery offers everything you need to make your stay easy, relaxing and fun. Well situated a short walk away from Loddiswell, and right in the centre of the South Hams, The Piggery offers easy access to the stunning coastline with its famous South West Coast Path, beautiful and secluded beaches, magnificent Dartmoor, and all the amenities the South Hams has to offer: Kingsbridge (10 mins.), Dartmouth (25 mins.), Salcombe (25 mins.) and Totnes (25 mins.) are all worth visiting, each offering something special. There are many charming villages close by, and the internationally recognised Dartington Estate is within 30 minutes. Loddiswell has in the past been a little overlooked but offers such a lot on many levels, we love it here! For those who like to walk, there are essentials available in the village via a short footpath and there are numerous trails, green lanes and Avon River walks that begin right at your doorstep and may be interrupted with a delicious cream tea or lunch at Avon Mill Garden Centre. Other benefits include plenty of parking for up to 3 cars, drive up access, expert local knowledge….. The bedrooms are small but perfectly formed.. the larger has a very comfortable King size bed complete with boutique Egyptian bed linen. The smaller, with its en-suite shower and loo is a narrow (4') but extra long double and can sleep two cuddly people or children who don't mind sharing. We also have a single mattress with bedding provided for a small extra charge - please ask when booking. Please let us know if you have kids as there are a couple of provisos regarding care of its furnishings .. COVID-19 Update. We are using our own cancellation policy which relies on trust. It's worked really well so far and nobody has lost out! Airbnb's complicated system we feel is not right for guests nor hosts so we devised our own which we are committed to. Please note: for the months of December through till the end of March we prefer bookings of 28 days or more. It's the perfect space to retreat from the strange times we live in and stay healthy and comfortable. Guests can expect beautiful walks from the door, home deliveries of locally produced food if they wish, and a perfect space for home working with Superfast broadband. There is shared parking, but with plenty of space reserved for The Piggery. We are happy for visitors to walk across the land provided care is taken to close gates and be mindful of livestock. Every so often we press apples into juice and make cider. We have an orchard bursting with fruit, and we can point you in the direction of wonderful wild foods depending on the season. We sell our own apple juice, cider and some chutneys. The Piggery has its own private garden - not quite finished yet so please bear with us - and a beautifully sheltered Terrace dining area overlooking the valley and orchard which is happily used by guests throughout the year. We are both artists/makers and are pretty sociable. We are Open in the Farmhouse 2 till 6pm every Thursday for visitors to see our work and are always happy to show people round and will find the time if they like what we do but would rather come on a different day. Apart from that we are always interested in meeting new people - our household centres around the dining table and kitchen and we always have coffee at the ready. . We won't intrude on your time in The Piggery though unless you invite us! The South Hams is a gem in the UK.. beautiful with a mass of things to do both inside and out... glorious and wild coastline, with its swimming, sailing, surfing, hiking, golf or simply taking in the stunning landscape..and Dartmoor is just 20 minutes away. Inland there's much to do and see - we will provide leaflets, brochures etc. - just ask or visit Tourist Information in Kingsbridge. Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are all special in their own way and once you've mastered the winding and secret Devon lanes there's beauty around every corner. Once you've been captivated you'll wish to return.. It's a good idea to search through our Guidebook here in case you wish to eat out in one of the busier places.. as we have many visitors throughout the year they will fill up all year round so it's worth booking in ad. Loddiswell is poorly served by public transport but Totnes Railway Station is just 25 minutes away, where you can hire a car. There are three buses a day to and from Loddiswell and Kingsbridge and there are plenty of walks from The Piggery so it is entirely possible to have a car free holiday.... We have picked up guests from the bus at Sorley - just 5 minutes away - and dropped them back for the return journey. On line shopping makes this an attractive option! Cycling is also a lovely if a little daunting way to explore - the Devon lanes are narrow with high hedges and occasionally inconsiderate motorists.. but an experienced cyclist will take great pleasure from the lanes around here and there are plenty of wonderful cycle tracks for the less experienced.. The Piggery has been very carefully built and finished to a high standard using many specially made features, including many examples of our work. Where we can we have used natural materials, clay paints etc and have incorporated much that is reclaimed and turned into something new. It's fundamentally a handmade house. We hope you will love your time enjoying it's pleasures and as it's new we would appreciate your feedback to make it even better... If you really would like a TV we can supply one..... The Piggery is deliberately TV free as a rule!
