Beautiful and peaceful Villa Alexia, Sifnos island
The house is divided into two parts, separated by a courtyard. The main building has a master bedroom and en suite bathroom, a large kitchen, dining area, and living room. The annex has three guest rooms and two bathrooms. We are Frances and George, an English and Greek couple who have made this Cylcadic island our second home for thirty years. We built the house following traditional Sifnian architecture, using locally-sourced materials. Sifnos has long been a well-known secret of artists––and especially architects––who have been influenced by the Cubic structures of its inland villages, dotted like abstract cubes along the ridges of its inner valleys. It was an important island during the Classical period, when it had both gold and silver mines. One of its most impressive achievements was the Siphnian Treasury in Delphi. If you are looking a vacation filled with extraordinary architecture, fine food and discreet bars playing excellent music, then Sifnos is your island. It does not have an airport, which has saved it from mass tourism. You have access to the entire villa. We will not be at the villa. We have a house manager who will welcome you on arrival and show you the rooms and amenities and answer any questions you may have. Additionally, we are also available at any time for questions and concerns. The villa is in a secluded spot overlooking the beach of Chrisopigi, to the left of the famous monastery. To the right is another beach, in the port of Platis Gialos, which has restaurants and shops. Appollonia is the capital, approximately 15 minutes away by car. Here there are numerous shops, restaurants, and bars, a post office, pharmacy, and car rental. It is recommended to have a vehicle to get around the island. The villa has enough parking space for three cars. There are several car rentals on the island. Two major ones are in Kamares, the main port where you will arrive on the ferry. There is a bus stop located outside the villa. There is one bus that runs from Platy Gialos to Kamares, past the house. It runs more frequently during the summer. You purchase tickets on the bus. Taxis are affordable. And they are often found at Kamares near the ferry terminal, and Appollonia in the square. The villa has two buildings connected by a courtyard: The Main Building is the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom, living room, guest WC, kitchen, and dining room. The bed in the master bedroom is a king-sized Coco-Mat. The kitchen is fully equipped, including with our own olive oil, sourced from the trees from our garden and cold-pressed locally. We have all of Ottolenghi's cookbooks (and many others) on our shelves. We also have a Nespresso filter machine. The Annex has three guest rooms: -- A large room with a double bed and en-suite bathroom with a shower, and a small private patio overlooking the sea. -- A medium-sized room with two single beds set apart, with views of the sea and a small private patio. Guests share a bathroom with the single room. -- A single room with a single bed and an office desk. It has a small private patio overlooking the hills, and another window facing the inner courtyard. We do not have A/C, as the evenings drop significantly in temperature on the islands, and there is always a pleasant cool breeze. For exceptional circumstances, all rooms have their own stand-alone fans. The master bedroom has a ceiling fan. For the winter months, we have electric heaters for each room. All the rooms have mosquito screens, ample closet space, spare linen and towels. We have a bountiful garden with organic produce to which you can help yourself: tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, green peppers, figs, spring onions, courgettes, and parsley, mint, sage, rosemary, and basil. We also have dried oregano. We have two hot water boilers, one for each building. We have a crib/cot for a baby if needed.
