Quay Cottage. Ideallic Waterfront Charm. Dittisham
This is a charming cottage in a location to die for! One of a few properties on 'The Quay' in Dittisham it has stunning uninterrupted views across the River Dart. The naval town of Dartmouth is just a 15-minute drive (20-30-minute river cruise) away, with its award-winning restaurants, boutique shops and delightful waterfront. The Ferry Boat Inn and widely acclaimed Anchorstone Cafe are less than 100 yards away. Agatha Christie's former home 'Greenway' is a short ferry 'hop' across the estuary. Stroll along The Quay on Dittisham's waterfront and you'll find Quay Cottage (the blue one!). The cottage is accessed from the quayside - via a covered porch which leads directly into the sitting room. This cosy living area has low ceilings, original supporting beams and delightful views and a Wood Burner. There is a step up to the dining area, of which, there is a Kids Den complete with single bed (with pull out) for 2 guests and Xbox. Two steps lead up into the kitchen from the dining area which is well equipped with a door leading out to the rear space. Here there is additional seating and further river views over the cottage can be found from the elevated decking area. The en suite master bedroom with king-size bed, is situated at the rear of the property. The en-suite has shower cubicle, wash basin, WC and bidet. Bedroom two has superb river views and a double bed. Bedroom three again has superb river views and is furnished with fixed triple bunk beds (the top bunk is 7’ from the floor and is not suitable for young children) but there is space for a travel cot or low level occasional bed. There is also a family bathroom fitted with a panelled bath with hand-held shower attachment, WC, and a wash hand basin. All of the cottage and rear garden space excluding the raised decking area and outdoor lock off. The property is managed by a specialist holiday property management company whose details will be found in the cottage. As a host, I live some distance away but am always on hand to help via messaging service. Anything that can't be resolved remotely should be directed to the Property Management company. Dittisham, or ‘Ditsum’ to locals, is a picturesque riverside village residing on the west bank of the River Dart. Bordered by stunning South Devon countryside and situated in the heart of South Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dittisham is the perfect bolthole if you are looking for a secluded quiet spot, with easy access to South Devon’s natural playground, look no further! The heart of the village beats beside the quayside – a gentle flow of passenger ferries, motorboats and kayaks dominate the water, whilst a strong sense of community hem the water’s edge, boasting a sailing club, football club, an avid bowls team and even regular bell ringers. For children, there is a riverside play area (one of South Devon’s finest!), and for those after a tipple or two, the nearby pubs and popular riverside seafood cafe are amongst some of South Devon’s finest eateries. Even in the height of summer, you will find the village of Dittisham truly embracing the calm, laid-back vibe that river life invites. Quay Cottage is accessible by road but there is no parking at the property. You are able to park on the 'beach' just outside during low tide times for the purposes of loading / unloading but more permenant parking can be found just along at The Ham or The Level car parks. A day parking permit costs £5 or £25 for a 7 day pass. The cottage is most suited to families and couples who want to enjoy the unique vibe of Dittisham and the beautiful riverside location in the knowledge that they are only minutes from Dartmouth itself and the beautiful South Hams area. We do not accept stag or hen parties and ask that all guests are respectful of their surroundings and our neighbours. Quay Cottage is located located very close to open water and the property has steps inside - both leading up from the living room to the dining room and also from here into the kitchen. Whilst there is a single bedroom downstairs, this involves a couple of steps to access. The main stairs in the cottage have open treads with horizontal bar across to prevent a small child sliding through.
