On the edge of the Cotswolds this Georgian cottage in Medieval Chipping Sodbury, has a range of independent pubs cafes and gift shops within walking distance. Popular with walkers and cyclists there is plenty to do locally . 25 mins to both Bath or Bristol its a perfect base to explore the surrounding Cotswolds . Well behaved dogs welcome. The recently renovated cottage is furnished to high standard with , flagstone floors , fast Wi-Fi , enclosed back garden and off road parking for 2 cars . Built in 1797 this quirky Grade 2 listed Georgian cottage has been lovingly renovated over the last year. Situated in the Historic Conservation Area of Chipping Sodbury it is of particular local interest due to the Stone Masons date Plaque and original Sun Alliance Fire Plaque on the front, the cottage features on a local heritage treasure trail around the town . Please note that as with a lot of cottages of this age there are some potential accessibility issues to be aware of , eg low ceilings in 2 rooms and a non standard wooden spiral staircase which narrows at the top . With ledge and brace oak doors , wood burning stove ,flagstone floors , reclaimed boards , a hand made stable door , 200 year old oak beams , and the original front door the cottage oozes character . A brand new kitchen, utility room and bathroom have been sympathetically fitted during the recent renovations , with washing machine , dishwasher ,oven and hob , freezer , toaster , coffee machine and microwave for your convenience . For dogs we provide a dog bed, crate , poo bags ,dog bowls , treats and towels . There is a downstairs cloakroom with WC and hand basin and the large entrance hallway is perfect for storing coats and boots, and for the keen cyclists there is just enough room in the hallway for couple of bicycles to be safely stored. The cosy lounge with wood burning effect gas stove has a smart TV with Netflix , there is fast Wi-Fi provided with good coverage around the cottage. Please note the lounge ceiling is lower than standard . The cosy dining room is furnished with a traditional rustic Farmhouse table and a wood burning stove , the space can easily double up as a work area for catching up on some office work . Please note the dining room ceiling is also lower than standard . The oak stairs are of non standard construction and are not suitable for anyone with mobility restrictions or young children . The 2 double bedrooms are tastefully furnished with an eclectic mix of antique furniture, decorative items and luxury bedding including duvets ,Egyptian Cotton Sheets , pillows and towels. The brand new upstairs bathroom has a WC , bath and above bath shower ( please note the bath is slightly shorter than standard ) The new boiler and heating system is thermostatically controlled to ensure you stay warm and cosy at all times .The gas fired wood burner is easy and convenient to use all year round and provides instant heat and ambience. The rear garden is south facing and a great little sun trap , it is a good size , fully enclosed and safe for dogs , there is a large patio with outdoor dining table and chairs , a BBQ , an outdoor woodstove , a Summer House/Garden snug with lights and a heater , 2 lawn areas and another smaller seating area by the back door . There are 2 private off road parking spaces at the front of the cottage . It is a 5 minute walk from the cottage to the nearby shops cafes , pubs and amenities . As we only live 5 minutes away we are available to be contacted should there be any issues during your stay . Dating back to the 12th Century , Chipping Sodbury is a designated conservation area , rumoured to be the second widest High Street in the Country and featuring an array of architectural influences , all just 2 mins from the cottage front door . Located just 30 mins to the Georgian City of Bath and 30 mins to vibrant Bristol City Centre , there is no shortage of places to visit . Situated in the foothills of the Cotswolds you are 20 - 30 mins away from some of stunning Cotswolds villages such as Castle Coombe and Lacock . Popular with cyclists and walkers alike you can pick up several well known walkways from your doorstep , The Frome Valley Walkway , The Monarchs Way and The Cotswold Way all pass through the local area. With everything you need on your doorstep from a range of independent gift shops , heath food shop , dog food shop ,cafes, charity shops, newsagents , hairdressers, beauty salons and even a Waitrose. we have our own Artizan market every Sat morning selling a range of hand crafted goods and produce . If you enjoy eating out you will be spoiled for choice , we have 9 pubs within walking distance and a wide range of take aways and restuarants including Indian , Thai , Mexican , Italian , Chinese, Italian a Steak House ( you could eat somewhere different every night and best of all you won’t need a taxi to get home ) Chipping Sodbury is very dog friendly and most of the cafes and pubs in the High Street welcome well behaved dogs . (more info at the cottage ) We are about 25 mins away from The Wave , one of the most advanced Inland Surfing Lagoon in Europe and Westonbirt Arboretum is only 25 mins drive to name a few ( see the Guidebook on this listing for more local attractions ) We are within easy reach of several Golf Courses , Chipping Sodbury Golf Course is a 10 min walk , The Kendleshire is a 20 min drive , and the world famous Celtic Manor Golf Course is approx a 40 min drive. Several of our guests have happily fed back to us that they didnt use their cars during their stay as they found everything they needed locally . Within a 10 min walk you have access to shops and cafes , supermarkets , pubs and restaurants . You can walk for miles , following some of the many footpaths or across the local commons to some of the nearby villages and beyond . There are regular buses from the High Street throughout the day , nearby Yate Bus Terminal ( 25 min walk ) has a wider choice of buses running both day and night . If you fancy heading to Bath , Bristol City Centre or to the Large Shopping Mall at Cribbs Causeway you can pick up a bus easily enough from either of these locations . Swindon is only 40 minutes away , and we are only 10 mins away from junction 18 of the M4 . There are plenty of beautiful Cotswold villages to visit , Castle Coombe , Lacock , Tetbury , Cirencester , Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water are all within 30 mins to an hour away . Cycling is very popular in the area and there are some lovely routes from the cottage door , you can pick up the cycle track near by and ride to both Bath and Bristol almost entirely using cycle paths. one of the local cycle shops can arrange cycle hire for your stay if required . There are some beautiful routes that take you out and about into the nearby Cotswold villages such as Castle Combe or to Westonbirt Arboretum Along with many local walks such as the local Woodland Nature reserve of Ridge Woods you can also pick up the very popular Cotswold Way and Frome Valley walkway , more info provided at the cottage . To help you plan. We provide all bedding ,bath towels , hand towels and tea towels . Washing up liquid , dish cloth and sponge , dishwasher tablets , washing tablets , black bags . hand soap , toilet rolls , shower gel and kitchen rolls . we also provide Tea , coffee and sugar ,a variety of herbal teas ,sweeteners , salt and pepper , vinegar and olive oil . We will always leave a basket of wood by the log burner and an initial amount of wood for the outdoor stove , along with some charcoal for the BBQ . We like to leave you a welcome basket for when you arrive which along with a few other goodies will include milk and bread .
