The whole house as well as the walled-in garden (electric gate) will be yours… You’ll feel like at home!!! The calmness of the countryside next to Rochefort-sur-Mer : a 10 minute drive and you can visit the Hermione (Lafayette’s ship) or Pierre Loti’s house (French novelist). The closest beaches (Fouras) are 15 minutes away with a wonderful view over Fort Boyard. The four islands that you can’t miss in our beautiful region: Oléron, Ré, Aix and Madame. The largest one, « Luminous Oléron », second French island by its size. A natural site, still preserved with wonderful sandy beaches where surfing is fun and for the history lovers: The fort of Château d’Oléron, Fort Boyard or the Chassiron lighthouse. Don’t forget to taste the famous oysters from “Marennes-Oléron” just for pleasure. Off La Rochelle, you will discover « Ré, the white island ». Saint Martin de Ré is a site on the World Heritage List. For bike fans, there are many cycle paths which help you to discover the treasures of the island at your own pace ( sandy beaches, salt marshes, pine forests, all of that bathed by a unique light) The most charming to our taste, Ile d’Aix is above all known for its prestigious guest who stayed there: Napoleon Bonaparte. You go there by boat from Fouras (15 minutes away from the house), there you can ride a bike and enjoy a real break. Some creeks remind us of Corsica. Time has stopped on Ile d’Aix for your greater pleasure. Finally, the tiny Ile Madame (75 hectares) can be reached on foot at low tide from the village of Port des Barques. It’s the best place for a nice family walk. Be careful about the high tide! For sports, there is a sports hall nearby (800m – with a free session so why not try at least once) and golf with a Practice and 9 hole course (SAINT LAURENT DE LA PRE), the beaches with nice invigorating waves (on Ile d’Oléron for example –Go to “grande plage”).
