The Little Church in Campiglia, Cinqueterre
Close to the Cinqueterre, Portovenere, Lerici, and Byron’s and Shelley’s beloved Gulf, at the Little Church tranquillity is... sacred. You’ve never been in a place like this - yet! Make yourself at home at the whimsical Little Church in Campiglia! Lovingly restored with a focus on practicality and comfort, the Little Church is a getaway full of character and charm. Once an actual village chapel, now deconsecrated, you'll love its original frescoes and the clever ways we updated and turned it into a cozy nest. The tempered-glass mezzanine sleeps up to 4. Fully equipped kitchenette with fridge-freezer, gas hob, and microwave oven. Large living room with dining and sitting areas. Due to the presence of stairs, we can not recommend the Little Church to families with small children. Linen (sheets, towels, tablecloth, tea towels) provided. The whole house is at your disposal. Tucked into a most typical Ligurian hamlet, the Little Church is easily reachable by a short walk (steps and cobbled alleys involved). You can park the car for free on the other side of the village. In the newer part of the village, there is a small grocery shop which also serves as the locals' bar and meeting place. There you can buy bread, fresh veggies and fruit, cheese and wine, and have very nice breakfasts and drinks on their terrace overlooking the Cinque Terre coast. Campiglia also has some restaurants which I've been told are quite nice, if not exactly cheap. Located on the top of a hill, Campiglia is just a 10 min drive from La Spezia: giving you the freedom to be cut off from the world and to get everything you need, anytime you need it. Campiglia is a hub of hiking tracks and trails to and from the Cinqueterre (2h30) and Portovenere (2h00). Hikers of all ages love it! It is located at 400m above sea level (I love to think of the Little Church as a country house with a sea view :)) This keeps things delightfully cool even in the hottest of Summers, but it also mean the nearest beach (Persico beach) is down some 1000 steps. It's a haven of peace but, should you prefer a more traditional seaside situation or have children, Portovenere and Lerici beaches are a half an hour drive away. The Cinqueterre can also be reached by a short drive, as are the Lunigiana archaeological site and the Versilia beaches. There is also a beautiful ferry ride from La Spezia to the Cinqueterre. Nearest airport: Pisa (92 km) Nearest railway station: La Spezia (8 km). There's a public transport service up to Campiglia (by bus). Nearest motorway exit: A12/E80 Santo Stefano Magra/La Spezia (17 km) The Little Church is a semi-detached property located in the heart of the small village of Campiglia. It is not an isolated building, but surrounded by other houses.
