Sea View Cottage, Portland
Sea View Cottage was built in 1805 and has many original features, the most obvious being it's original shell of 600mm (2 foot) thick Portland stone walls, repointed in lime mortar in 2018. Other original features include an inglenook fireplace now housing a woodburning stove and, on the second floor, floor boarding that we suspect may have been salvaged from a sailing ship wrecked off the rocks nearby. One of the exposed roof timbers at this level previously saw service as a ship's mast and we suspect it may have been salvaged from the same shipwreck as the flooring. Sea View Cottage is the perfect place to explore the Jurassic Coast from. The property has front and rear gardens with BBQ provided. On road parking immediately outside plus three free 72 hour car parks nearby. Books, games, plus wide screen Freesat smart TV with Netflix and Prime Video. Chromecast to stream video from your phone or tablet. Amazon Echo Dot with Alexa. !!NEW FOR 2022!! - an amazing sea facing, railed, timber sun deck and viewing platform, size approx 5m x 3m, has now been provided at the rear of the cottage. This also provides child and dog security to this area. Our guests comfort and safety are very important to us. An independant fire risk assessment was carried out in 2018 as a result of which fire doors were installed and the electrical installation upgraded, including the provision of emergency lighting. The cottage was re-assessed and an Inspection Certificate issued in March 2019 valid to March 2024. The property was thoroughly re-assessed during the 2020 lockdown and additional measures introduced to comply with the Professional Association of Self Caterers' (PASC) interpretation of UK Government Regulations introduced in June 2020 to safeguard both our guests and our housekeeper from contracting and/or spreading coronavirus. Guests should also note that there are cottage style stairs (steeper than normal) between all floors, plus external steps down to a front courtyard.
