The Octagon, 2 acres of private family space.
The Octagon is set in 2.2 acres of beautiful private woodland. It is visually secluded, and all yours for your group to explore and enjoy. The land is surrounded by open fields and farm tracks yet you are 15 mins walk from all town centre amenities. Great for families with plenty of hidden and interesting spaces to enjoy including a small play area with swings, slide and climbing frame. Please note we are not a party house and expect our guests to respect the house and surrounding environment. The Octagon is a single level chalet built by myself with 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. There are two bedrooms with king size beds and a bunk room which sleep 4 in two bunk beds. There is also a sofa bed which is a double bed in the main space. It sleeps 10 in total . We offer a caravan which sleeps 4 in two double beds for £40 a night extra or £20 pp/pn over 10 guests. There is plenty of room for socialising in the main space and plenty of outdoor space with several seating areas including an undercover area. We have a wood fired hot tub and sauna available for hire at £200 for the stay. We do not have a tv or WiFi but 4g signal is good. This is a place to relax with nature and enjoy some peace with friends and family. As we are in nature and surrounded by trees and fields there will be the occasional bug, spider, rabbit and sometimes deer. No dogs unless they are small, well behaved and you clean up after them. Guests are welcome to explore the whole 2 acres at leisure. Everything is accessible apart from a tool shed which will be locked. Please note we do not accept extra guests on site without prior permission . We live nearby outside of the grounds and are available if you wish. Accrington was once an ancient forest used by royalty for hunting trips. During the industrial revolution large areas of terraced housing were built to house cotton workers which still gives the town its milltown character. For historical days out locally there is Helmshore textile museum, Clitheroe Castle, Houghton Tower, Salmesbury Hall, Gawthorpe Hall and Townley Hall. For hystericaldays out there is the Jumpworks trampoline venue. Holmes Mill brewery Clitheroe and outdoor zip line and other experiences at Outdoor Elements, Simonstone. For culture vultures there is Accrington's Haworth art gallery with its Tiffany glass. Footy fans can take a trip to see Accrington Stanley one of the founders of the football league. The town has a mixture of pubs and clubs and restaurants. We recommend Grants Bar with its own micro brewery, and The Tiger Lounge cocktail bar both 10 minutes walk downhill at the bottom of Sandy Lane. Walkers can take the track up Sandy Lane and in 45 mins find yourself on the top of Celtic named Hambledon Hill with views across Lancashire to Blackpool tower on a clear day. For a quick stroll enter Tag Clough which locals call Bluebell Wood, an area of old coppiced woodland with a stream just 200m from our land. There is also the Coppice area, donated to Accrington, by Robert Peel founder of the police force, which has a network of footpaths leading to a monument with great views over the town and surrounding area. IMPORTANT ACCESS INFORMATION The Octagon is approached up a bumpy farm track for 250 metres. Cars should take it easy in 1st gear, its fine for all but the lowest sports cars. The 150m track from the gate to the Octagon should be navigated with care as there are a couple of ruts, and in winter a little mud. IN ICE AND SNOW CONDITIONS IT MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE TO GET A CAR UP THE TRACKS. We will endeavour to get you up by 4x4, if this isn't possible, the worst case scenario is you will have to walk 400m uphill to the Octagon. Some fields around the Meadow are great for sledging, there are 2 sledges available if it does snow! From Accrington railway station it's a 25 min walk. A taxi should be about £4 but check the driver is happy to come up a farm track, some refuse. We are 30 mins drive from the scenic Ribble Valley and Trough of Bowland. It's 45 mins drive to Manchester centre or airport, 80mins to Liverpool airport, 55 mins to Blackpool and about 90mins to the Lake District. There are nearby car rentals and even a campervan hire place at Oswaldtwistle. You can park your car near to the Octagon on a grass car park, it gets a bit muddy in winter so you can just leave your vehicles on the track or hard standing at the entrance. Guests can book a pop up dining experience if they wish with dinner@marias on we-fi-fo. She will come and cook and serve your food and clean up afterwards.
