This is ensured by the rustic landscape that surrounds the county town: Steep mountain slopes, the Moselle with its unpaved banks, the deep forest gorge of Endert characterize the picture around Cochem. The city center is dominated by a striking mountain cone on which the Reichsburg Cochem towers. With its strikingly large keep, it is one of the best preserved castles in the region. An absolute highlight is the historic old town. The many half-timbered houses, the market square and several remnants of the medieval city wall give the city a poetic appearance. Steep streets and stairs lead to the former, built in the 17th century monastery on the Kapuzinerberg and the opposite Reichsburg. Everywhere there are picturesque viewpoints. On the more than one kilometer long Moselle promenade with countless hotels and restaurants you can enjoy the wine of the region and watch the ships. In the southern part of the promenade there is a historic water gauge house and above it the medieval Martinstor, from which leads a particularly interesting, along rugged rocks leading up to the castle. No wonder that Cochem is one of the most popular holiday and excursion destinations on the Mosel, especially since the city is surrounded by the hiking areas of the Eifel and Hunsrück. For a longer stay in the city, a ride on the chair lift to the rocky Pinnerberg is definitely worthwhile. From here you have the most impressive view of the city. The journey by train is easily possible. Parking is often difficult to find in Cochem's old town, especially in summer. However, you can drive in front of the house to load and unload your luggage. Good parking is available in the city parking lot (5 minutes walk) There you can park for 2 euros a day cheap.
