Situated right on St. Cuthbert's Way, 3 miles from Melrose and and St. Boswells, Bowden House B&B is perfectly located for walkers, outdoor sport enthusiasts and nature lovers. Dating from the early 19th century, our country house B&B is full of charm and character and has been lovingly restored and refurbished. It boasts magnificent panoramic views over the Border's countryside and large private gardens. We offer 2 superb bedrooms for our guests - a large king size double and a twin. Both bedrooms are beautifully furnished with antiques and enjoy south facing views over the countryside - birdsong wake-up included. Our bathrooms and en-suites are to a luxury standard with toiletries provided. Our lovely Rococo Double Bedroom features a large double bed (160cmx200cm), tea/coffee making facilities, TV, free Wifi and ensuite facilities. Our guests are welcome to relax and unwind in our cosy lounge with TV, board games, log fire and our Bang & Olufson sound system. You will have free Wifi access throughout the house. Meals will be served in our lovely dining room with patio doors opening onto the terrace and garden.  Packed lunches & dinner can be provided upon request. There is a heated boiler room to leave wet shoes and outdoor clothes as well as ample storage space for bikes and golf or fishing equipment. Please feel free to use the lounge, dining room, terrace/gardens and court yard. Smoking Please note that Bowden House is STRICTLY NO SMOKING. Ashtrays are provided outside. Linen & towels are provided. Accessibility: The house is not recommended for mobility restricted guests. We provide ample parking for our guests in the courtyard. Our friendly dogs, Elgin & Yoko are looking forward to welcoming you too..... I am very happy to look after you and provide packed lunches on request. We can also arrange pick up/transport to and from your walking routes in the area, if you let us know beforehand. Bowden House B&B sits in a magical spot with magnificent panoramic views across rolling Borders countryside. It located in the centre of the small and quiet village of Bowden and enjoys complete privacy. There are bus links that connect all major Border Towns and the next bus stop is right across the street from Bowden House. The newly opened train link will take you directly to Edinburgh Centre in about an hour. (Tweedbank train station is 10 minutes away). We can arrange pick up for our walking guests from their start and finishing points, if they wish to stay for several nights. WALKING/CYCLING. Right at the doorstep of Bowden House you can access the Eildon Hills and St. Cuthbert's Way. For keen cyclists, walkers and riders, there are hundreds of square miles of forests, woodland, heather-clad hills and quiet country roads to explore. There are several major walking and cycling routes nearby including the picturesque Four Abbeys Cycle Route and famous 64-mile St Cuthbert's Walk as it criss-crosses the Borders on its way to Holy Island. For mountain biking enthusiasts the outstanding 7 Stanes down-hill and cross country trails at Innerleithen and Glentress set in the stunning Tweed Valley, sit just 15 and 19 miles respectively. GOLF: For golf fans, the 9 hole Melrose golf club sits in the shadow of the Eildon Hills while two 18 hole courses - Galashiels Golf Club and Torwoodlee Golf Club – sit on the doorstep. Alternatively the area enjoys 46 courses within a 30 mile radius including the championship courses at Cardrona and Roxburgh and the famous links courses at Luffness, Gullane and Dunbar. FISHING & SHOOTING. If your passion is country sports, the famous Tweed and its tributaries provide the opportunity for salmon, trout and grayling, with notable middle Tweed beats such as Tweedswood, Bemersyde and Lower Pavilion offering some excellent value fishing. Shooting, be it clays or game is also available locally, including nearby Bisley at Braidwood where you can pay and play, sharpen up your eye with a few shooting lessons, or perhaps try the first full-bore pipe rifle shooting range in Scotland. PLACES TO SEE. Melrose is an ideal base for exploring the Tweed Valley, with its magnificent countryside steeped in a turbulent and romantic history and punctuated by imposing castles, including Floors, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Thirlestane and Alnwick, the evocative ruins of abbeys at Kelso, Jedburgh, Melrose and Dryburgh as well as stately mansions of Manderston and Mellerstain. The stunning coast is less than an hour's drive away with miles of pristine sandy beaches for walking, riding, kite-surfing and bird-watching. The magnificent city of Edinburgh is also an easy day trip, less than an hour's drive away.
