100% Off the Grid, Solar Powered Eco-Farm Stay on outskirts of Stanford's beautiful Heritage Village. Fynbos Nature Conservancy with Milkwood Groves, Private Nature Trails, Birding, and fantastic relaxing. Perfect for people wanting to unplug and enjoy the scenery with a good book and good company :) Please note this is 100% solar powered and therefore it is "basics only" for electricity needs. We have a gas stove, a woodburning hot-water system, and two mini-fridges which all work fine and a nearby co-host to assist you in case you have any questions. On a cloudy day the power may run low and we do our best to keep candles stocked to make sure you've got proper "bush-lighting". Inside the Walker Bay Nature Conservancy is this eco-farm which we have been working on for about 10 years now. Initially overgrown with rooikrans and other alien vegetation we have been clearing the land and reintroducing indigenous flora. In this nature sanctuary you'll find the bird life to be incredible, there's also a few buck and other small game to be spotted. The home itself is built largely from reclaimed materials and vintage fixtures and fittings. It has been built to suit the landscape and constructed to suit an off the grid infrastructure. Your accommodation is a mix of rustic and timeless quality - cast iron antiques, beautiful new linens, and pastoral landscape to soothe the soul. PLEASE NOTE - PREVIOUS GUESTS HAVE BROKEN TWO OF THE THREE FIREPLACES SO WE SRE CURRENTLY AWAITING PARTS AND SERVICING. IF THIS MESSAGE IS UP IT MEANS IT IS STILL OUT OF COMMISSION. THE OUTSIDE BRAAI IS STILL WORKING JUST FINE :) thank you for understanding :) The farm is about 300+ hectares for your enjoyment, please be kind to the landscape and the premises. It has a dirt road off the main road that we've driven many times but there are a few dips that a low-riding car might not be happy with. Most rental cars and even small city cars are fine, no sports cars, and please check your vehicle’s ground clearance before hand to avoid any issues :) FILMING - If you would like to hire out the farm for commercial use please send an enquiry and we can take it from there. We have conservancy and other regulations to comply with and we're happy to make that happen, so send us a brief and let's see what we can do. Thanks! I am a quick message away if you need anything at all and can assist with all your trip planning needs. Our co-host will be available to assist with basics such as hot water questions, power resetting, things like that. We have a key lockbox there for self check in/out. Situated in the Overberg (over the mountain from Cape Town) in South Africa, is the small village of Stanford. Established in 1857 it retains an old quiet charm with all the contemporary comforts for modern living in a quaint village. Stanford was awarded the Best Village Destination in the South African Destination Awards in 2012. The village has a river running through it and is watched over by a friendly mountain with birds abound. The surrounds offers wine cellars, a micro brewery, local cheeses, restaurants, and antique shops. On the farms surrounding the village "fynbos" species flower through out most of the year. In nearby Hermanus just 15km down the road you can enjoy the whales (in season) from the cliffs or from a light aircraft and the beach is always nearby. Stanford is an ideal base from which to explore the Overberg region. From the southern most point of Africa to beautiful hand made candles or even a casino. To witness the kilometres of rolling green wheat fields splashed with bright yellow canola flowers that seem to form waves as the wind blows across them. Take a picnic basket to a beach that disappears in the distance around a bend in the shoreline. Stanford is also home to the world-famous "Mariana's" restaurant for the best leisurely lunch you will ever have. For something quick and convenient I recommend Yum Cafe on the village main road. Ou Meul is a familiar chain in the village as well which does some great pastries. Graze Cafe is a fantastic weekend breakfast, for something more fine dining try dinner at Grootbos or a farm house dinner at Springfontein Winery, and a cold beer at Birkenhead Brewery after a day of hiking in the veld is divine. My best though is the Manor House at Stanford Valley Farm, it's amazing mid-century modern decor meets traditional farmhouse design and the food is off the charts (vegetarian 5 stars, too!) - Book in advance, let me know if you need help, happy to help arrange for you! You will need a vehicle to access the farm via the dirt roads. Compact cars are fine but must not be on a low-suspension. Please be aware if your vehicle has low ground clearance. There is No public transport or Uber out here. No Open Fires - This is an eco-diveristy protection zone, absolutely no fires outside of the fireplaces and braai/BBQ area. Guest Animals - If you'd like to bring a furry guest please let us know beforehand so we can make a plan. Snakes - this is the bush and with wildlife comes the occasional snake, please be alert and especially watchful of dogs and children in the grassy areas past the homestead.
