It's nestled in one of the few remaining old coconut estates in the area and is in the perfect position to explore Kandy and the surrounding highlights or just put your feet up with a book and enjoy the peace and quiet. The Building has history and now has a style all of its own. While staying in a mixed Sri Lankan / English home, you can experience real Sri Lankan life, while enjoying the benefits of English hosts with tons of local knowledge. We are a family with young children & 5 dogs (the dogs live outside and are not allowed in the house). You can taste the variety of traditional Sri Lankan home cooking, made with fresh ingredients, with a few western dishes thrown in. I'm on hand to assist with travel questions and like to have lunch and dinner together (private dining is also available at the guests request), while also giving our guests space to relax during their holiday. Officers Mess is situated in a really beautiful location, outside of Kandy, away from the hustle, bustle and noise of the city. Officers Mess offers a home away from home next to the Mahaweli River, with stunning river walks, or when the river is too high, guests can take advantage of our kayaks. We offer the advantage of being able to explore real Sri Lankan village life, while offering a peaceful family haven next to the River. Swim at nearby 4-5* Earl's Regency Hotel or watch the cricket at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. TRANSPORT: Officers Mess is a ten minute walk to the main bus route to Kandy, with frequent buses to Kandy (journey to Kandy takes around 15mins depending on time of travel). From the bus you can catch a tuk tuk to our house, or if we are free we'll pick you up from the main road. From Kandy you can catch a tuk tuk to the Officers Mess for around Rs 700, please call us if you need assistance with giving the driver directions. For journeys around Kandy or exploring further afield, we can recommend a reliable driver with AC car or van to help you explore this beautiful area. We have five friendly dogs on the property; Coco, Billy, Floss, Lilly and Rosie who are always looking for some attention but if dogs ain't your thing we'll try our best so they aren't a bother :)
