Marked trails in mountains nearby. Catskills Trails book in cabin. Snowshoe, xcntry. Snowfall of 2' not unlikely. Handsome post and beam cabin, 8' x 14'; planed hemlock interior. Built in sleeping platform and drawers, futon mattress. Sited at edge of owner's 70ac hardwood forest on dead end road. No elec/water in cabin. Wood stove for heating has small top surface for cooking. You can collect firewood from the forest floor. Last guest has left you dry kindling to build your fire. Please do the same for the next guest. Limited amount of firewood available from host's firewood pile at end of driveway. No charge for firewood. Solar shower in season. In summer, some mosquitos (not terrible); bring repellent. Advice on hiking, canoeing, day trips, artist studios, historic sites, museums, antiquing. No cell signal probably. You're away from it all. Star gazing: A special amenity in every season. Little to no ambient light encourages nighttime sky viewing. Firefly season, June and part of July. September is the beginning of foliage season. Very beautiful. Red maples begin to 'display' first of autumn foliage in late August. Most colorful display, late Sept - Columbus Day. After Columbus Day, only beeches 'guaranteed' to have leaves, other hardwood leaves fall from wind and rain. Snow cover, perhaps, by mid-Nov for Xcntry, Snowshoeing. Winter camping is exciting but recommended only for campers with winter experience, winter gear, and good sleeping bags. Silence is a special amenity of this land. Little or no road noise. DO NOT PLAY RADIOS OR DEVICES; please be part of and enjoy the quietness. Rugged hiking along divide, 2200', between Susquehanna and West Branch Delaware watersheds. Rugged hiking shoes, heavy canvas trousers, shirt, coat. Bushwacking. There's no marked trail; you follow the terrain. Vistas to 30 miles from divide. There's autumn foliage mid Sept - Columbus Day. Easy self check-in if host or co-host is not present. Yours is the only cabin in the forest. We don't go to guest cabin unless invited or answer a request. The rolling terrain of NW Catskills, 1500' to 2300'. In Winter expect cold days, frigid nights. Recommended for experienced outdoors people with good equipment. Summer nights, refreshingly cool. Upper slopes, hardwood forests; some softwood 'plantations' at lower elevations. Dairy farming on lower slopes; some farmland disused, some organic dairies, some vegetable farms, a number of chicken-and-egg farms, grass-fed beef farms. Properties, forests, fields and homes are owned by families that have been here for generations and by 'urban refugees' who come for peace and beauty of the landscape while still being 160 miles from metro New York. Great fresh-food shopping because of these farms. A rich array of cultural events - fairs, festivals, exhibitions, concerts, theatre - each weekend. Hiking trails nearby. Ski slopes are 35 miles + away. Cabin/camp site occupancy limited to two persons. Dogs welcome; please give advance notice to AIRBNB host.
