The Little Port Cooper School House at KEIRANGI - off the grid huts, Camp Bay, is our remote farm hut. Very historic building, built in 1883. Basic & naked tramping & camping hut. Enjoy the remoteness of this incredible hidden spot, the fishing, hiking, diving, relaxation, the safe sandy beach, native bush, sea kayaking and so much more! Start with a 1.5hr tramp over to Little Port Cooper from the Keirangi Homestead, then enjoy a humble historic stay in the Ole School House. The Ole School House was built in 1883 as part of a small settlement for the harbours signalmen and their families. It is of historical significance. The frete work on the building is typical of what decorations adorned homes and buildings of the early part of New Zealand's history. This Hut is your real deal remote basic and naked back country accomodation. Open plan that sleeps 9, 3 double beds and 3 single bunks. A compostable out-toilet, Solar lighting, gas cooker and BBQ (gas provided) with all cooking gear provided. Basic kitchenette with sink and cold running water. you can also pitch tents for extra guests for a fee. No bedding is provided, you will need to bring a fitted bottom sheet, a pillow case and a warm sleeping bags. We provide all basic amenities, cooking oil, tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, handy towels, tea towels, cloths, first aid kit. The Hut has, No Electricity No Hot water No Refrigerator No Car Access No Pets STRICTLY NO FIRES No Bedding No Wifi The only way to this hut is to tramp there with your gear on your back (you can travel lightly as we provide all cookers, gas, cooking wear, utensils, plates, mugs beds, pillows etc). We will provide you with a code for the hut and direct you for your hike over to Little Port Cooper via the Historic Pack Track. Only access to hut is by foot so PLEASE WEAR APPROPRIATE HIKING FOOTWEAR, as track can get very slippery when wet. The track is narrow and steep for a lot of it so we do not recommend this hike for children under the age of 7 years. The hike will take about 1.5 hrs if taking the Old Pack Track or you can take the farm track which is 2 hrs. We do not provide a gear transport service for this hut. Alternatively, you can access the location by boat/sea kayak. Meet us at the Keirangi Homestead and say hello. Then we will direct you on your way to Little Port Cooper and leave you be. We will always be available if you need us. You will need to boil the water before drinking, it may pay to take some bottled water until you get a chance to boil and cool your drinking water. Strictly no dogs sorry due to stock on farm. Cleaning - Please leave the hut as you found it. as the hut is not frequently serviced. All surfaces wiped down, BBQ and Cookers cleaned, sweep the floors, take all rubbish back with you and lock when you leave.
