‘Elelta’ Bed and Breakfast is a renovated 18th-century house in the centre of Najac, one of France’s most beautiful villages. We are a short walk from three restaurants, two cafés, a bakery, the tourist office and more. We provide breakfast, with a variety of choices, including fresh local bread and croissants. We offer three ensuite bedrooms. This is the listing for the third room, ‘Mazerolles’. It looks out to the rear of the house, over the Aveyron valley to the hills of Mazerolles with its castle. It can be configured as a double bed or two single beds. The ensuite bathroom comprises of a shower, sink and toilet. A separate listing covers the first room, which is the larger room of the three rooms we have, ‘Le Faubourg’. It can be configured for 2-3 persons, either with double or twin beds, with an optional third single. It has a view over the village square. Another separate listing covers the second room, ‘Courbières’. It is configured for a double bed and has a view over countryside towards the hillside hamlet of Courbières. In the morning, guests can enjoy a variety of choices for breakfast – freshly baked artisan bread and pastries, juice, cereal, yogurt, fruits, cheeses with fresh coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Free WiFi. Visitors are free to use our dining/living room and satellite TV in the lounge area. We combine the Bed and Breakfast with a small shop/workshop where we make and sell hand-crafted jewellery and hand-woven textile products. The shop is located in the right hand side of the ground floor as seen from the front. We would be happy to demonstrate our craft techniques for those that are interested. Tsedey also offers silver jewellery making classes – please contact us in advance if this would be of interest. Our location is at the normal entry point of the village, so access by car is easy and there are several options for parking close by. Toulouse is the nearest sizeable airport, about 90 minutes away by car. All year round, it has daily flights to four London airports, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. In the summer season, there are also flights to several other UK destinations. And many other European destinations, of course! If you choose not to rent a car, you can transfer to Toulouse station by bus or taxi. Airlines flying to Toulouse from the UK are British Airways (Heathrow), Easyjet (Gatwick, Luton and Bristol), FlyBe (Birmingham and Manchester), Ryanair (Stansted) and Jet2 (various summer season destinations). Carcassonne is a further option, but is slightly further, being over two hours away by car. Najac has a railway station! Trains run 5-6 times daily on a line terminating at Toulouse to the south-west, while to the north all trains run to Figeac, and from there the train may continue to Aurillac and Clermont-Ferrand. There are plenty of connections from Toulouse all over the South-West (Carcassonne, the Pyrenees, Spain), and from Figeac to various destinations such as Rocamadour, the Dordogne, or Paris. It is possible to fly to Toulouse or Carcassonne and then take the train to Najac. You would need a bus or taxi to get from airport to station, but services are provided for that purpose. At Najac, the station is 30 minutes walk up a hill, or 5 minutes by car - we are happy to give you a lift. Najac easily justifies its classification as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It stretches along the ridge of a hill which forms a peninsula in the river Aveyron. The impressive 11th century castle stands high at the centre of the peninsula and overlooks the village. A long street winds and undulates for one kilometre, from the village square to the castle, passing old stone buildings but occasionally opening up with views over the surrounding countryside. Najac is by no means undiscovered, but has not experienced the degree of commercial exploitation of many other picturesque villages. It seldom becomes crowded – only in the high summer season when there is a market or a fête day. Conversely, during Spring or Autumn, the days are often more pleasant than in Summer, but the village is peaceful. Najac has a market in the Place du Faubourg on Sunday mornings throughout the year. In July and August, there are evening markets on Wednesdays. The countryside around Najac has numerous walking paths, in the Aveyron valley and the surrounding hills. Besides walking, there are other activities close by, including canoeing, horse-riding, mountain and road biking, farm visits and ‘Go-ape’ tree adventures. There is a municipal swimming pool complex near the station, 5 minutes by car. It has a 25m pool for experienced swimmers and divers, a learners pool and a paddling pool.
