We welcome you to come and be part of the restoration of this unique and ancient Monastic Estate, nestled under St Michael’s Hill in Montacute. Discover peace and tranquility in this 5* property in a simply stunning location. Pop to the bakery at 28 Market Place, Somerton for a real treat! For a taste of the West try Osip in Bruton, The Barrington Boar, The Lord Poulett in Hinton St George and the restaurant at No 28. Fancy some pampering or yoga then Jordans Yard is the place to be! The Estate office is tucked away in the recently converted single storey dairy complex. It has been carefully decorated with antiques and vintage items giving a real feel of country life. The space has a super king size bed with luxurious linens.. A double height sitting room and welcoming wood burning stove that will be laid ready to light for the colder months. We provide a generous amount of wood and kindling for your stay, with any extra required being charged for by the bag. There is a large partners desk and comfortable chairs for relaxing in front of the fire. A spacious shower room has everything required to freshen up with lovely shower gel and hand wash. A kitchen space if you feel like dining in, with all essentials for creating the perfect meal provided.. There is also a table and chairs outside for those lovely summer evenings! The Estate Office has excellent wifi and is ideal for business travellers. This is an excellent base for walkers, cycling, nature lovers and those seeking a quiet get-away. Access to the Estate Office is down the private road that you will find between the Church and the King’s Arms Inn, past Abbey Farm along the gravel track to the end. Parking for one car outside the Estate Office, within the dairy courtyard. The gates of the courtyard are closed at night. The hosts will be available throughout your stay to advise and help you enjoy the area. We have a vast knowledge about the area and it’s history, so please ask any questions. We can recommend walks and where to find the best meals in the area. The gardens at Abbey Gatehouse are open through the National Gardens Scheme every year. You are welcome to come and have a look around. Montacute is a beautiful unspoilt village near Yeovil. It is famous for the National Trust Montacute House (of Wolf Hall fame). The wonderful warm Ham Stone traditional buildings, local history and conservation area make it a fascinating place to spend some relaxing time. Further afield there is: Sherborne, bustling with interesting shops; Bruton for art & food lovers with the new Hauser & Wirth gallery and Newt in Somerset; wonderful gardens & houses to visit all a short distance away. Half an hours drive and you will be at the Jurassic coast - an amazing feature of the South West coastline. There are increasingly so many lovely restaurants around- Try Osip a small farm - table restaurant in Bruton The Barrington Boar near Ilminster 28 Market Place Somerton Restaurant, Bakery and wine Shop The nearest train station is Yeovil Junction. It is a quick car journey of about 15 minutes to Montacute. Taunton and Castle Cary Stations are also within a taxi drive. There is also a regular bus service from Montacute to many of the towns and villages around. The village is a one minute walk with pubs, restaurants and shops. A warm welcome will greet you at the King’s Arms Inn for meals. Booking recommended especially at weekends! The 5km Montacute Park Run is on every Saturday @ 9am. Register your entry
