Bungalow on tranquil organic mini-farm
Bungalow on productive organic permaculture vegetable and fruit mini-farm bordered by both a river and a creek in a beautiful, quiet location with scenic Turpins Falls and The Cascades nearby, between the cafe-filled towns of Kyneton and Castlemaine. It's safe, peaceful and quiet here - perfect for isolating during the current crisis! It is the tranquillity and beauty of this property, with its beautiful garden surrounded by undulating farmland with magnificent gum trees, and with scenic bushland and breathtaking natural features nearby, that makes this a unique experience. The wide range of vegetables and fruits that surround the bungalow, grown intensively by hand and hoe and organic methods only, will be of interest to many guests and add to the uniqueness of your stay here. Generally a couple or a single person stay, but some guests have stayed with a baby, toddler or young child and found the mini-farm an ideal attraction for the kids because of the pigs, chooks, very friendly goats, and two cute bouncy young collie dogs. Many adult guests love the animals too! Guests will have access to the entire property - you can relax in the garden and walk around it, pat the animals, check out the vegies and fruit trees, walk alongside the river and swim in our great swimming hole on the river (complete with mini-beach!). Please note that this is a market garden and so there will usually be at least one person working in it. You will have private access to the bungalow, which is separate from our house and self-contained. There is a parking spot for you close to the bungalow for easy access. We are happy to chat with guests. Or we can give you peace and quiet for relaxing, walking, artwork, writing or contemplation - whichever you prefer. We offer a workshop on the property, Grow Organic Vegies and Milk Goats, focusing on how to grow great organic vegetables, berries and fruit, as well as how we integrate and care for goats, pigs and chooks on the mini-farm, with lunch at our cafe included - at the discounted price for bungalow guests of $80 per person for two hours. (You can read about the workshop on Airbnb Experiences.) Just send us a message to book in! The workshop runs from 11am to 1pm most days - you can come early on the day you arrive, or stay longer on the day you check-out, to attend it. We also own and run our cafe in Kyneton called Home Grown on Piper, which uses organic produce from our mini-farm and other local producers, so any breakfasts or lunches you want can be purchased there - bungalow guests receive free coffees when you order meals! We look forward to meeting you! Cheers, Rob and Gunilla. Metcalfe is an amazingly quiet, tranquil village considering how close it is to Melbourne - and it is exceptionally beautiful country too, with undulating farms overseen by huge gum trees, and steep hills covered with bush. The breathtaking natural features The Cascades and Turpins Falls are both in Metcalfe, and it is close to Mt Alexander, Black Hill Reserve, and Malmsbury with its botanic gardens and historic viaduct. 15 minutes away is Piper Street in Kyneton with its chef's-hatted restaurants; it's not much further to the historic goldfields towns of Castlemaine, Maldon and Bendigo; and both the Daylesford spa country and the Mt Macedon region, including Hanging Rock and Trentham Falls, are little more than half an hour away. There are many wineries in the region such as Coliban just up the road, and Sutton Grange only ten minutes away. You could drive up to Lake Eppalock or to the Heathcote wine region too. The quiet little hamlet of Metcalfe is positioned at the centre of all the attractions of Central Victoria, so it makes a great place to base your holiday. Most guests will prefer to have their own car, but we could pick you up from Kyneton or Castlemaine stations for an extra fee if you are happy to have a quiet, peaceful time based at the property. On foot, you can check out our garden and animals, pop down to the river at the back of our property complete with mini-beach, walk around our block for beautiful sunset and sunrise views, and walk for 30 minutes to The Cascades, which is an amazing place. If you want we can provide tasty, healthy meals (at extra cost) which means that you can remain on the property during your stay! With a car, your options increase to natural attractions such as spectacular Turpins Falls, Mt Alexander, Black Hill, Hanging Rock and Trentham Falls; and to great towns such as Kyneton, Castlemaine, Bendigo and Daylesford. Central Victoria is your oyster. This property is perfect either for those who have a strong interest in organic growing, or for those who simply want a relaxing, peaceful holiday in beautiful surroundings. The wood heater in the bungalow creates a warm, cosy atmosphere and is in keeping with the natural surroundings. A high-quality split-system air-conditioner and heater ensures you can stay cool in summer and backs up the wood heater in other seasons to ensure constant comfort. The bed is queen size, very comfortable, and fitted with luxurious 1200-thread-count linen. We supply high-quality towels and facewashers for the shower. The bungalow's kitchen includes a fridge, microwave, two-burner electric hotplate, pots, crockery, cutlery and sink for basic meals preparation. We supply milk, bread, cereal, coffee and tea, and you can pick a few fresh organic vegies from our garden for cooking in the bungalow. You are welcome to bring your dog, cat or other pet, or an infant or small child who sleeps in the queen-size bed with you, in a cot you bring, or on an air mattress we supply.
