A simple life by the sea…. Breakwater Lodge is our hideaway. A refuge from everyday life. Fishing, sleeping, reading, snuggling in bed, cozying up to the wood fire with a glass of wine in hand, meandering along the beach or fossicking for mussels on the lichen covered rocks…… a place where we can dream. Perched above the boat ramp, Breakwater Lodge was built as a fisherman’s cottage back in the (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ’s. Over the years, much love & attention has been thrown her way, as per the whim of her owners. More recently it was a Hobart gentleman’s weekender. And now she has come to us for safe keeping…… East facing, you will wake to the sound of birds, with sea views over Gypsy Bay to the Dunalley oyster farm. Through the glorious sunrise, you will see dolphins, seals and local fisherman hauling in their catch. A place to lay in bed and read, with a pot of tea to hand, as voices can be heard echoing up over the breakwater…… Our Place: You will enter to an open plan lounge/kitchen area. Lots of comfy leather lounges, fluffy cushions and even an old rocking chair, all located around a roaring log fire. A 60’s mid century kitchen table with Bentwood chairs, rescued from an old pub & lovingly restored by the owners. There are plenty of books at hand, in our sitting room, for an afternoon by the fire, or a sunny day out on the deck. There is a large outdoor setting, located next to the bbq (used to cook the flathead, caught on the breakwater). Many a night has been spent out on the deck, drinking wine, listening to the fish jump, and playing board games…… he always wins! The open plan kitchen has everything you will need. The owners are entertainers, so you will find a cook’s kitchen….. and a reasonably well stocked larder. There are even lots of contemporary cook books in the sitting room. Two bedrooms, decked out with queen sized beds, luxurious linen, and their own bathrooms. The master has incredible views out over the breakwater. She has been lovingly decorated with quirky & eclectic objects sourced by her owners locally & further afar. Bed side tables are not what you would expect and art work on the wall is rarely centred. There’s even an old 70’s click clack sofa (Gina) in the sitting room who was salvaged from a tin shed up on the mainland. Its a cosy space, decorated with things old & new, gathered & inherited, not what you would expect, but enough to make you feel right at home. Each room has a vase of seasonal botanicals, found by the handful in the garden. If fishing aint your thing, you can sit on the deck, glass of bubbles in one hand, binoculars in the other, watching your partner catch dinner off the jetty. Close enough to yell out to see if they need their glass refilled, or even a small platter of local cheeses delivered to said location ….. or not! The ensuite to the master has a walk in shower. The other bathroom has a bath. For your convenience, both are stocked with fluffy towels & Australian made toiletries. Please note that if 2 people book this place, we will assume they are a couple & will use one bedroom only. If you are requiring useage of the second bedroom, as 2 singles, there will be an additional charge of $50 per night to cover the cost of laundering the bedding. Breakwater Lodge is located at the top of the boat ramp, on Primrose Point. We are approximately 45 mins from Hobart, and 30 mins drive to the airport. What attracted us to this area was its remoteness. That means there are no coffee shops or supermarkets in our seaside village. Our place is literally at the end of the road. Dodges Ferry (15 mins drive) has a fabulous IGA supermarket which is owned by Hill Street Grocer. For those of you who have never shopped in a Hill Street Grocer before, prepare for your senses to be assaulted. They stock an amazing array of local cheeses, charcuterie, breads, meat & some of the freshest fruit/veg this island produces. They even have a cheese club! Dodges Ferry has a BWS which actually has a good selection of local wines, ciders and beers. We have a bit of a soft spot for our local vineyards so please support these businesses where you can. Sorell (20 mins drive) has the big supermarkets for all your other needs. Plan to do a shop before arriving at Breakwater Lodge. If you are beyond desperate for caffeine, a road trip back to Hobart could be the answer, otherwise you can track down Sirens Coffee …… a little coffee van located out the front of the Dodges Ferry fire station Tues-Sat. Go say ‘hi’ to Sarah ….. she will sort you out with coffee and vegan treats. Water, gas & septic: The seaside village of Primrose Sands runs off tank water …. it is rare and precious. Please be thoughtful when you have your shower. The last thing we want is for our tanks to run dry when you are half way through your stay. The hot water system, cook top, heater & bbq all run off gas bottles. Our housekeeper will have this under control, but please be conscious about usage. And finally ….. we use septic tanks. That’s code for: dont flush anything down the toilet that shouldn’t go down there….. please use the little waste paper baskets in your bathroom. Guest access: We have a lock box where you can access the keys to let yourself in. We are absent owners, but have a housekeeper who lives locally. Our place is yours to use, but you will find one of the rooms is locked, as we use this for storage. If you have (Hidden by Airbnb) , you might like to follow our journey @breakwaterlodge We trust that you will enjoy your stay at Breakwater Lodge. This is our version of a Tassie ‘shack'. We know she doesnt look like a shack, we know she is grander than a shack, but to us, she is our ‘shack’. We are hoping, like us, you may never want to leave here…… Access is by a lock box. We are happy for you to use our other kitchen goodies, but please remember that this is what we use when we holiday at Breakwater Lodge, so we would appreciate that you replace what you use. We expect that you will leave Breakwater Lodge as you find it: clean & tidy. Please note that our housekeeper is there to change bedding, clean bathrooms, vacuum, etc, but we expect that you will clean up all your dishes, kitchen area and leave the place as you find it. Much appreciated. Toilet paper: 2 rolls per bathroom are provided.
