You may have support from my neighbour if required. This part of Mainz is known as the "New City", as opposed to the medieval city (Altstadt) and dates from the late 19th century. Over 50% of the original buildings were destroyed during the war, and the remaining is easy to recognize. The rebuilding was done in typical post war architecture, and not keeping the original style. The area has been a student / immigrant area, becoming gentrified and trendy in the past 10 years or so. Lots of nice hidden places to discover. Not as busy as the old town. 3 blocks from Mainz central train station. Walking distance to the Mainz Synagogue (5 blocks), the Cathedral (8 blocks) , the Gutenberg Museum and the Rhine (5 blocks). Buses and bike rentals around the corner. Direct trains to the airport. There are two nice restaurants just outside the door: The Laurenz - the owners are wine producers from the Rhine region and sell their wine in the restaurant, also to take out (two prices - one for in house consumption, one to take out). Möhren Milieu accross the street is Vegan food. There is an excellent steakhouse about 5 blocks away: patagonia-mainz, and a very good Vietnamese "Hanoi" also a few blocks away.
