Old Farmhouse: cosy & traditional with logburners
The Old Farmhouse is very cosy & traditional with stone floors & fireplaces & log burners. We are very dog-friendly & ideal for family holidays or groups of friends, in both Summer and Winter. The Old Farmhouse is located in the hamlet of Mena, 1.5 miles from Lanivet in central Cornwall so perfectly located for exploring everything Cornwall has to offer. We're just 20 minutes from both North & South coasts, & an hour from Lands End. Great walking and cycling trails lead directly from the house. The Old Farmhouse is exactly that, parts of the house date back to the 18th century. Bags of character but with all the modern comforts you'd expect to enjoy your holiday. To make life easier for guests with children, the house is fully equipped with fire-guards, a travel cot, baby stair gate and a folding high-chair. The beds are incredibly comfortable with memory foam mattresses and hypo allergenic pillows, fresh white cotton bedding, white towels and hot water supplied by our solar system. There are log burners in the living room and the dining room, with plenty of firewood provided for your first night, and the house is centrally heated throughout. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials, including an American style fridge/freezer, gas range cooker with electric oven, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Outside there is an area suitable for BBQ's and firepits (both supplied) and a porch providing space for drying clothes, wetsuits and towels for when you come back from the beach. Mena is no longer a working farm but you can help collect eggs from our lovely chickens. The farmhouse is adjacent to a small campsite, so whilst you have your own private gated entrance, driveway, outdoor seating area and gardens to enjoy, you can also make full use of our campsite facilities with 15 acres of meadows, woodlands and ponds to explore. Here you can picnic and enjoy the sunset over the valley, go star-gazing, play pool or ping pong in the games barn. There is also a small on-site shop with all the essentials, and a children's play area - great for making new friends! During school Summer holidays, we host regular visits from a local pizza van, alfresco cocktail lounge, and a barista. We also offer a twice-weekly, free delivery of fish and chips all year round - perfect for when you don't want to cook! Being in the centre of Cornwall is a real bonus, as both coasts are within 20 minutes drive. Just check the weather forecast and decide which coast has the best weather on that particular day, or just cosy in with a good book or film and a toasty hot fire. Our local village Lanivet is the official centre of Cornwall, which means you can cover the length and breadth of the county within an hour of the house. We live right next door to the Old Farmhouse, and so are on hand should you have any questions. We love Mena, and it makes us happy to share it with our guests. There is so much to do on and off-site locally, we're happy to help as much as we can to ensure our guests make the most of their stay. In addition to your own private, enclosed garden, The Old Farmhouse is located adjacent to a campsite, which also forms part of the property. You have full and direct access to 15 acres of meadows, woodlands and ponds, the campsite games barn and children's play area. Mena is a haven of wildlife where you may be lucky enough to see deer, badgers, hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits, and birds such as kingfishers, woodpeckers, owls, birds of prey and herons. Parking is plentiful, space for up to 6 cars to park in your private driveway. Once you're checked in, you're left entirely to yourselves, although if you do need anything, either pop into the campsite office, or contact us by phone/text and we'll be happy to help! We live next door to the farmhouse, so are around if you need us, and we're able to give you lots of ideas on how to make the most of your stay! Mena Farm is located in the hamlet of Mena, around 1.5 miles from the village of Lanivet which has a great pub, a large village store, and an excellent fish & chip restaurant/takeaway. Bodmin is just 4 miles away with several supermarkets and restaurants, and St Austell is 6 miles to the South. We're just 20 minutes from Newquay Airport, 10 minutes from Bodmin Parkway railway station with regular trains from London, 3 miles to the Newquay Branch Line, and around 1.5 miles from our local village, Lanivet. Whilst there are walking trails from Mena, the nearest bus stop is in Lanivet (for buses to Bodmin, St Austell and further afield), but we would recommend bringing or hiring your own car so that you have the flexibility to explore everything Cornwall has to offer. You can reach anywhere within the county by car within an hour of Mena and there is plentiful parking at the house, with space for several cars. Unfortunately, given the age of the house, it is not suitable for wheelchair users, or those with mobility issues. Over the years, the house has been separated into two, and we live next door. In November 2021, we fully refurbished the bathroom, and add a separate cloakroom with additional loo and handbasin. Please note that additional fees apply for the EV charging point.
