Stunning Farmhouse in idyllic rural setting
My place is close to family-friendly activities and restaurants and dining. You’ll love my place because of the light. My place is good for families (with kids) and big groups. La Cachette is a renovated 19th Century French stone farmhouse, with a large double height sun terrace and iconic blue shutters. It sits in it's own enclosed grounds of approximately 5000 sq metres, laid mainly to lawn, bordered on two sides by oak and acacia trees with pine, soumac and crab-apple dotted here and there. The large swimming pool is situated in full sun and bordered by honeysuckle and scented lavender, making for a relaxing swim, with views over nearby farmland and fruit trees. The pool opens onto a barbecue terrace, with a covered summer kitchen, shaded by a Merlot vine and wisteria. The property itself is huge, comprising 12 large rooms, many with double-vaulted beamed ceilings and original stone walls and quarry tiled floors, to keep it cool in the summer. A large Salle is the central room, containing 3 sofas, a large dining table and chairs and working wood-burning stove. The Salle opens onto all other rooms, including King, Double and Twin bedrooms; family bathroom, separate WC and separate shower room; kitchen, utility room and breakfast room; snug lounge with working wood-burner and playroom. When the sun is shining walk through double glass doors onto the south-facing covered sun terrace for relaxing or outdoor eating with table and chairs, swing-seat and loungers plus candles and low lighting for evening entertainment. All space is available for guests to use and enjoy with the exception of the outdoor barn, outbuilding and pool house as these need to be restricted as they may contain chemicals etc. The property is all on one level, with the exception of a few steps in between some rooms, so we believe it is suitable for disabled access. Our French home is managed by Lucy and Andrew, who live 5 minutes away and run gites themselves. They will be on hand to meet and greet and to assist with local knowledge as they relocated to the area from the UK some years ago. Situated in the rolling countryside of the Lot et Garonne region of France, 70 minutes drive from the famous Bordeaux wine region, this rural idyll is blissfully quiet yet only 15 minutes from the border of the Dordogne and the beautiful medieval bastide town of Eymet. There are lots of local places to visit, Bastide towns, local farmers markets, night markets and festivals and the French region is famous for wine production, truffles and tomatoes, amongst other things. Eymet itself is a very anglicised area of France and so language should not be a problem. We have provided information and recommendations on what to do and what is on locally in the house. You will need a car to enjoy this area of France, as it is very rural. The closest shops are in St Barthelemy d'Agenais, which is 2 kms away and is open 7 days a week for those all important newspapers, croissants and other essentials. Larger supermarkets are approx. 12 minutes drive away. There is a new outdoor table tennis table with racquets on the patio which is great fun for kids and adults.
