Nisala Arana Bentota, A Private Villa
A boutique & Bawa inspired manor house in the village and nearby to the Bentota beach. Set on acres of working coconut estate & landscaped gardens this is a 7-bedroom villa with freshwater swimming pool & private chef. We also offer unique experiences including cultural cooking classes & traditional devil dancing with Sri Lankan & seafood garden dinner nights. The property is also a secret escape for intimate destination weddings, wellness, photography, artist and writer retreats in Sri Lanka. Set on acres of tropical Bawa designed gardens Nisala Arana is a haven for native and migratory birdlife and features a 180 year old Dutch period colonial manor house. The property is dappled with fruit and medical plants stemming from its history as the former home of an illustrious Veda Mahattaya (Village Ayurveda Doctor). The property was meticulously & lovingly restored to its former charm and we opened the doors to visitors and friends in early 2002. Guests will have access to all common areas of the property including the Garden Pavilion, The Pool and all Rooms if booking the place exclusively. Guest Bicycles are available and we also have a Private Tuk Tuk for Beach & Town trips. If guests are interested they are also welcome to join our Chef in the Kitchen to learn about Sri Lankan cooking and maybe share a few recipes and skills as well. Our property is staff by a small and dedicated team including Chef, Waiters, Housekeeping, Laundry, Gardeners and our Villa Guardian Mr. Tony who will be available at all times to assist you during your stay. Our property lays within a natural jungle setting that is shared by a wonderful selection of wildlife including Monkeys, Birds, Monitor Lizards, Squirrels, Mongoose, Porcupines and Butterflies. You might also encounter the occasional snake crossing the gardens although rest assured majority are harmless grass snakes. Our resident guide Sena will be more than happy to take you for walks around the property to see the Coconut Palms and other fruit and medical plants as well as spotting the wildlife in the Gardens on Bike Rides or on a Catamaran or Motor Boat River Trip. Bentota is an Ancient Buddhist Village with some amazing old Temples on offer to visit. Bentota is also well known for its amazing long sprawling white-sand beaches and safe swimming. Running alongside the River and Lagoon a host of water-sports are also on offer. Other famous sites in the areas are the Private Homes and Gardens of Bevis & Geoffrey Bawa. Bentota is also very well positioned to offer comfortable day-trips to Galle Fort, Udawalawe National Elephant Park, Sinharaja Rainforest as well as Colombo and the International Airport on the Southern Expressway. Our property is only 2.9km from the main Galle Road and we make getting around as convenient as possible by offering complimentary Guest Bicycles. We also have a private Tuk Tuk & Morris Minor on site or we can call you a Taxi as needed to get to the Beach or Town.
