This is our home in the south of France which we list on Airbnb when we're not there. It is located within a small quiet village called Escales, about seven kilometres from the town of Lézignan-Corbières. It has a lovely secluded garden and within the old stone building there's a modern IKEA kitchen and bathroom. This is our home so it is full of our things and we are careful to only host guests we believe will treat our home with respect. It's an old stone building (a previous ramonétage - worker’s cottage) attached (via two huge rémises - outbuildings) to the original vintner’s house in the heart of a small village. Our cottage was converted with care and creativity into a contemporary home around 2010. Large, secluded garden with shrubs and fruit trees and a terrace shaded by an ancient vine. The kitchen and bathroom are from IKEA and the oak beds and other furniture from Indigo in Derbyshire, England. All new furniture, beds and mattresses in 2018. New washing machine and large American fridge freezer. Wood burning stove for colder days, assorted electric fans for hotter ones. Forty minutes from the beaches of Narbonne and Gruissan and thirty minutes from la cité de Carcassonne. Great base for sightseeing. The whole house and the garden are yours to enjoy. Use anything you find in the kitchen or salon - leave some money if you use a lot of something or open a bottle of wine from the cupboard. This is our home and we list it on Airbnb when we are elsewhere. (We have a boat on the Mediterranean, another home in Bristol, England and family we visit in California). We'll be able to answer any queries by phone or internet and there is a chap in the village who can be called on in emergencies but we will trust you to let yourselves into the house and lock up when you leave. Our house is in a small village surrounded by vineyards, great for walking and cycling (two bicycles available for you to use). The Canal du Midi is about eight kilometres away and the amazing old city of Carcassonne is about twenty kilometres. The village has its own shop, post office, primary school, salle des fêtes and mairie. The beautiful old church is well worth a visit and there are many local chateaux offering “dégustations” of their wines. To get to our house you drive through a small modern Lotissement, but at its end you will find hidden away our rustic and rural oasis of peace and tranquillity. Nearby airports are Carcassonne, Perpignan, Béziers, Montpellier and Toulouse (in order of distance - closest to furthest away). We recommend hiring a car but there is a railway station in Lézignan-Corbières and a taxi to the house costs about twenty euros. There is a self check-in system, details of which will be visible to you via Airbnb 48 hours prior to the start of your stay: 1. Go to "Trips". 2. Tap on your upcoming trip. 3. Go to "Checking in & out" for check-in instructions. You can drive your car right up to the property if you wish; otherwise there is a free public car park less than 100m from the end of our driveway.
