Old Town - magnificent duplex

This flat combines everything you could possibly wish for while visiting Stockholm; located in the most romantic and historic part of town, it is comfortable and stylish, neighboring the Royal Castle and close to all the best restaurants and sights. This duplex flat in the Old Town in a 16th century building on medieval grounds will be a wonderful base to explore Stockholm all year round. The building faces the Stockholm Cathedral entrance and is steps away from Stortorget "the Great Square" of Stockholm. It is an exceptionally charming apartment with it's beams and whitewashed walls as well as beautiful decoration details, stone flooring in the hallway etc. spacious and private with 125 m² distributed on three different floors and 6 rooms. The entrance hall opens up to a staircase leading up to the first floor which features a comfortable sitting room with a fire place, a stylish dining room with yet another fire place and an expandable dining table that can seat up to eight people. The master bedroom with a king size bed is located next doors and is connected with a small corridor to the two bathrooms; one with bath tub and bidé, and the second one with a shower as well as a washing machine and dryer cabinet. The kitchen is generous and well planned for cooking, fully equipped with a large fridge and freezer. The gallery on the second floor has a couch (which can also sleep one person) where you can stretch out and relax while watching the magnificent sunsets, as well as on the small terrasse facing the City Hall. There is also a television here. The mezzanine leads in to the second bed room which has a double bed and provides a cozy atmosphere thanks to the beamed ceiling. There is also a small room which can be used as an extra bedroom with a large single bed (sleeps two children) or as a lounge. The guests will have full access to the apartment, except for one small room where I store my private things. Bedlinen, towels etc. are provided, and you can and easily cook in the practical and bright kitchen where there are all kitchen appliances including a Nespresso machine. It is easy to do laundry in the second bathroom where there is a washing machine and a dryer cabinet. There is also a Sonos music system with great sound around the apartment and an Apple TV where you can stream you favorite shows. Two extra beds and bedding could be provided upon request and an extra fee. Cleaning service in the middle of your stay can also be arranged at an extra cost. I would be happy to give you advice on what to see and do in Stockholm, however since I travel quite a bit myself I might be out of town, but will make sure that you can contact someone trustworthy during your stay to help out if needed. The Old Town - Gamla Stan, is one of the largest and best preserved medieval city centers in Europe, and one of the foremost attractions in Stockholm. This is where Stockholm was founded in 1252, and the building stands on these exact foundations, the oldest in Stockholm. All of Gamla Stan and the adjacent island of Riddarholmen are like a living pedestrian-friendly museum full of sights, attractions, restaurants, cafés, bars and places to shop. Gamla Stan is also popular when looking for handicrafts, antiques, curios and souvenirs. The narrow winding cobblestone streets, with their buildings in so many different shades of gold, give Gamla Stan its unique character. Even now cellar vaults and frescoes from the Middle Ages can be found behind the visible facades, and on snowy winter days the district feels like something from a story book. There are several beautiful churches and museums in Gamla Stan, including Sweden's national cathedral Stockholm Cathedral, (its entrance just opposite the flat) and the Nobel Museum. The largest of the attractions in the district is the Royal Palace, one of the largest palaces in the world with over 600 rooms. In addition to the reception rooms, there are several interesting museums in the Palace, including the Royal Armory, with royal costumes and armor. Don't miss the parade of soldiers and the daily changing of the guard just around the corner from the flat. If you would like to do some shopping during your stay in Stockholm, you can visit the big shopping malls NK and Åhlens City, which are by most people considered the best shopping malls in Sweden. The department stores are located only ten minutes walk away from the apartment, alternatively 2 minutes by taxi or one Station with the metro/underground. Around the center you will find other malls like "Gallerian" and "Mood Gallerian", located just across the street from NK. Another popular mall, "Sturegallerian", is located approximately five minutes walk from NK. Between NK and "Sturegallerian" you can also find "Birger Jarlsgatan" and "Biblioteksgatan", which are two streets with many boutiques of different high end brands. You can easily get to the Old Town from the Central Station where trains and buses arrive from Arlanda airport and from all over Sweden, and access both the Metro (Tunnelbana) and buses that will take you to all different parts of town. Taxis are also allowed to drive up to the building, although in general cars are not allowed in this area - which of course adds to its charm! The building does not have a lift, and the flat is on the top floor, so anyone with health or mobility problems should perhaps reconsider staying here. Also since is just next to the cathedral the bells toll, which for very light sleepers might be disturbing.
