The Red Shed
It's a smart Shed and it's Red...set on 14 acres in Hahndorf, nestled in the Adelaide Hills. It is quite private with a lovely view. It sleeps 5 comfortably, with 2 queen beds in separate rooms, and 1 single in the play area. Quaint & cosy inside. I am able to offer a horse experience for adults or children. Hour sessions can be tailored for a non riding experience through to a more formal style riding lesson but NO trail rides on offer. Enquire at booking as there is an additional charge. Although we are marketing our space as The Red Shed, it is very comfortable and pleasant inside and not "shed like" at all. It has a stunning view over the property, with horses roaming in the paddocks nearby. There are also chooks, goats and dogs, and a donkey! - it really is a farm experience. Inside our Red Shed, is a large bathroom, lounge, two bedrooms, one main (queen bed) and one smaller room (queen bed). There is a small room which can be used as a second lounge space or children's area. This space has the single bed in it (so if you do need an extra bed and book for 6 people, there is another single mattress we put down on the floor. This can either then be moved during the day or left in situ). As a rule, space wise we really only say we accommodate for 5 but I have had so many requests for the 6th space that this is provided with a mattress in the floor. Couple of things to Note: I would like to note here that we have a small unfenced dam, approximately 200m out of sight of the accommodation but if you bring small children you need to be aware of this. It is only thigh high and pretty much empty most summers. Also, please be aware that the Adelaide Hills region is in a bushfire risk area. While our property is adjacent to the safer place of Hahndorf, I do have a bushfire survival plan. There is a copy in the top drawer of the sideboard in the kitchen. If the fire danger rating is CATASTROPHIC on the day of your checkin, I will phone you to discuss the implications of this, which is to ask you to check in later in the afternoon or early evening. If this rating is reached during your stay, I will make time to discuss your plans with you. Our priority is to keep everyone as informed and as safe as possible. Guests have the whole studio, their own private outdoor patio area, and access to the beauty of the property itself! Parking is right outside the door so unpacking the car is not a problem. WiFi - Unfortunately it is not available, it is apparently the tin of the shed which causes the issues of access. If you bring your own wi-fi / hotspot there is no problem. My family and I enjoy people! So we look forward to welcoming you and we will go out of our way to make sure you have the best possible time you can. Historic Hahndorf is the oldest Germanic settlement in Australia and the delightful township of Hahndorf today is a testament to the original hardworking pioneers. If you love wine, then discover the Adelaide Hills wine region from our abode. There are more than 40 cellar doors, hidden amongst vineyards and fruit orchards. The cool climate and good rainfall makes it perfect for producing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. For those who enjoy a hearty walk, (or very easy drive!) within 2 kms are The Lane Vineyard, Nepenthe, Hahndorf Hill and Shaw and Smith. All producing stunning award winning wines and serving fabulous local food while boasting spectacular views of the Adelaide Hills. There are also many specialty shops, restaurants and hotels in the township - it can take a day or so to explore Hahndorf alone! There is plenty of history in Hahndorf - and just a walk down the main street brings it alive. A very quick overview: On the 28th of December 1838 the ship "Zebra" carrying 187 German Lutheran immigrants (38 families) arrived in Port Adelaide. These families were from Prussia (modern Germany) and they were escaping religious persecution in their homeland. The ship's captain Dirk Hahn, a Dane, had grown to respect the passengers and promised to help them achieve their goal of settling and farming together. He was able to negotiate a parcel of land in the Adelaide Hills. They named the town in his honour. Hahn – dorf being “village” in German. Many of the beautiful old buildings and original stonework survive to this day, and Hahndorf is an artful amalgamation of old meets new architecture. Having your own transport is probably the best way to go. However, we are situated about 1/2 km from the nearest bus stop which will take you directly to Adelaide city or from Adelaide city. You can catch public transport to Hahndorf from the airport if necessary. We can always pick up guests from Hahndorf or by prior arrangement from the airport (there would be a small charge for this service). A normal taxi costs between $80 - $100 from the airport. There is ample parking at The Red Shed. The Adelaide Hills region, while only being 25km from the city centre offers a charmed world of its own. The countryside is storybook-pretty. It is dappled in light, dotted with quaint villages and bustling towns. Use the Adelaide Hills as a base for more touring. Adelaide, the Barossa and the Fleurieu Peninsula are all within an hour’s drive. Just get in the car and see where you end (Website hidden by Airbnb) will be somewhere special!
