The Wash House Studio is secluded in the heart of Orford close to the local shops and restaurants and Pump Street Bakery. We also have off street parking. It's a stylishly converted, self contained double studio with en suite and amazing views to the water from our meadow across to the river Ore. You can use the Shepherd's Hut too! Our breakfast is with local products - bread, our garden fruit, pastries, juice, yoghurt and preserves plus coffee and tea. This is delivered to your door. Three magazines and a Sunday Supplement have reviewed The Wash House Studio: The Mail on Sunday in 2020: 'Cute: Wash House Studio in Orford offers a self contained studio for two and is a great base for exploring ... it is a converted 19th century Coastguard's Wash House and so pretty you'll instantly wish you were an artist practicing your watercolours in the wildflower meadow opposite' Olive: Voted us the 'Best B&B in the East of England' and said "Compact yes, but it's also cosy, warm and stylish - we liked the original ceiling (it dates back to 1875), collection of antique books, glazed lobby and swish tiled wet room, complete with Suffolk-made Honeybee toiletries" Jamie: "stylishly done ... the gooiest chocolate brownies await your arrival ... it's the breakfast that sets this place apart" Red: "a foodie b&b ... a cozy annex of old friends ... the view across the meadow like garden with Orford Ness on the horizon" The famous goldsmith Jackie Mina OBE in her 'Perfect Day Review' wakes up at the Wash House before going to Benjamin Britten's Red House and a concert at Snape Maltings before "then falling happily beneath the feather duvet in our cosy B&B". The Wash House Studio has it's own outside space with a table for two and delightful seasonal planting. This is accessed through French doors from the Studio. Guests are free to wander around our meadow and it's wild plantings and see the views across the sea wall and towards Orfordness. You can also sit and enjoy these delightful surroundings... We live full time in the adjacent house so can be around to chat and help you with ideas or leave you in peace to enjoy the peace and tranquility! Orford is a wonderful place, especially for couples, about 2 hours from London by car or train. Some like to walk or cycle the '4 Foot Ferries' which cross our rivers. Most people come for a few days to really appreciate the coastal walks or cycle routes. A very short boat trip takes you to the National Trust's Orford Ness for a totally unique experience. The Norman castle and RSPB Havergate Island are local and Minsmere is close by. Orford is relatively unspoilt and traditional. It's skies are big. A great place for photographers, especially at the quayside during the 'golden hour'. Orford is also a great foodie place including its award-winning Pump Street Bakery, it's Orford landed fish is smoked by Pinneys. The Butley Orford Oysterage is justifiably famous (set up in the 1950's) and we have two pubs, and a floating restaurant - The Lady Florence. She makes river trips all year round whilst you dine on local produce and drink local wines and juices. We will always help with any local information : walks, cycling, bird and wildlife watching (local hares), gardens and National Trust visits, concerts. There is also a local taxi firm if you wish to venture further afield. We have off road parking available for your use.
