Stunning rural 2 bed gite close to Dordogne border. Tastefully converted from an old stone barn with all modern conveniences. The gite sleeps 6. One double bedroom and 2 singles upstairs and a double sofa bed downstairs. It comes with its own patio area, set in one acre of enclosed grounds with swimming pool. Ideally placed to explore the region with its abundance of lakes with beaches for swimming, chateaux, churches and Medieval villages. Upstairs: Two bedrooms and a toilet/shower room, with storage unit, vanity sink etc. Downstairs: Large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area and a second WC. The lounge area is comfortably furnished with chairs and a convertible sofabed and equipped with French terrestrial TV and Wifi. The dining area contains seating for up to 6 persons. The large kitchen area has floor level units with plenty of work-top space and is equipped with a built-in electric fan oven/grill with 4 ring flat-top hob, fridge/freezer and a micro-wave oven. Dogs may sometimes be permitted, however this is at our discretion only and must be discussed in advance. Gardens and pool We live on site (technically behind you) so we are in hand if you need us or invisible if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet Our gite accommodation in Limousin is situated within the beautiful Perigord Regional National Park on the historic route of Richard the Lionheart. We are 35 minutes from Limoges airport with direct flights from many regional UK airports. The local area offers good walking routes, excellent roads for cycling and plenty of opportunities for fishing and bird-watching, boating and lakes with beaches for swimming. Visit some of the local towns and villages, such as Le Chalard on the historic Richard the Lionheart route, once famous for it’s gold mining activities: it has a beautiful church which hosts a summer classical music and arts festival. Nearby Segur-le-Château is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France, and one can also visit the fantastic 12th Century fairy-tale Château at Jumilhac-le-Grand. Especially popular with guests are the weekly Farmers' night markets during July and August at Segur-le-Château and St Yrieix, with their wide array of food stalls and live music. The remarkable Lascaux cave paintings are a very popular attraction, as is the poignant town of Oradour-sur-Glane (just outside Limoges), which has been left untouched as a memorial to the 642 individuals massacred there by the Nazis in 1944. If you feel like a day in the City, nearby Limoges, renowned for its Limoges porcelain, has a good range of shops and restaurants. You can visit the aquarium, take in a museum or two, such as the Limoges city museum and art gallery, or the ceramic, glass and porcelain museum. Or take a ride on the steam train which runs between Limoges and Ussel, through spectacular gorges and countryside. We are rural...you will need a car!!! :) You will be sharing facilities with one other gite.
